How to become an optimal parent

Alexandra Johnson discusses her virtual conference on pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting. She argues that optimal parenting isn't about perfection but about love, presence, and doing your best, shaped by your own values.
Hey, everyone. Alexandra here. Hope you're having a great day. So I wanted to talk a little bit about optimal parenting, and we have created an amazing virtual conference called optimal parenting 101. And essentially what it is is a virtual conference, online, free, and it starts April 8th. And it is the best pediatricians, midwives, birth educators, experts, and authors on how to have a joyful pregnancy, amazing childbirth, and also have a awesome postpartum early parenting journey. So I essentially, when I found out that I was pregnant, I had been reading and preparing for the year before, and I found out I was pregnant and just dove into this wisdom, and I purchased, like, 75 books. I didn't read all of them, but I read a lot of them. And I then felt like I just really wanted to soak up in this wisdom. And I felt like there was a book here on this topic and a book on this topic, and I just wanted to create kind of a virtual conference where you could learn about nutrition, you could learn about birth and education and parenting and all of these topics all in one place. So I gathered together a lot of my friends and some of my favorite authors and teachers and interviewed them on what it means to be an optimal parent, how do we become great parents, how do we have a happy and healthy pregnancy, and how do we have the birth that we want to have, and how do we become the best parents in the postpartum phase? So I'm very thrilled about this. It was such an incredible experience to create it. And when every time I got off of a call with one of the experts, I just took down notes, and I felt so inspired, and I felt even more prepared and ready to rock mommyhood. And I'd get off the phone and talk to my husband and just was so immersed and so excited about these ideas because I was so, so committed to having an exceptional pregnancy and a home birth and really step into motherhood powerfully. And I have such gratitude and appreciation for these teachers and these experts because I feel like they have been so helpful for me. I don't know if I would have had such an amazing pregnancy and natural birth and early parenting experience if I didn't have this wisdom. So I'm very excited to have collected it and interviewed these people for myself personally, and then also to share with you all and wherever you are on your journey, if you wanted to start a family, if you're pregnant, you know, somebody who's pregnant. This information can transform your life, your friends life, your family's life, and the world. It is so important. I Think the more that I've studied this and went through the whole process myself, I realized how important and crucial this information is to bring our children in with love and know natural birth and just to have that amazing secure attachment with your child like who, who those children become as they grow up. And we are raising the next generation. It is very inspiring. And it's a big huge job and we all want to do the best that we can. So I am thrilled about this. And there's so much information just on parenting in general. And I think what optimal parenting is, is really coming from the place of doing your best. You can read the books and talk to the experts and have all of these people tell you what to do. But at the end of the day, you need to soak in all this wisdom, check in with your heart and say, does this resonate with me? And create your own optimal parenting philosophy, if you will. And that's what I hope you do with optimal parenting. That you listen to these experts and teachers and take what feels right for you and implement it into your life, into your family's life. And that is what optimal parenting is. And it's definitely part of my practice. It doesn't mean, you know, just because you get all this information doesn't mean you're going to be a perfect parent. And there's no such thing as a perfect parent. And we don't want perfection. We want optimal just showing up moment to moment and doing the best that you can for your child and just having that love and that presence is what is most important. It's not getting it right. There's no getting it right. There's no right pregnancy, there's no right birth, there's no right way of anything. So you just need to get clear about what feels good to you and then have the commitment to do the best that you can to fulfill on those ideals and those expectations. And if they don't happen, just roll with it. If I learned anything about parenting so far, you gotta just learn how to let go, let go and just roll. Just roll with life as it is happening. And your philosophy may change from one day to the next and what you feel like works for your child one day to the next. And that is part of the grand adventure. So again, very thrilled about optimal parenting 101. And I know that I the stepping into parenthood. I don't know if you can actually prepare for it, but I feel blessed that I did have all this information. I felt as prepared as you can be. Because when you do have a child overnight, your life changes. And I definitely had an amazing postpartum process phase. It was. I felt so on and healthy and just really rocking it. Yet there was still the moments of Holy wow. Yeah, this is intense. This is intense. To take care of a newborn and to love this newborn and take care of myself and just the whole radical shift. It's definitely a rebirth becoming a mother. But that's gonna be a whole other topic, a whole nother conference. For now, we're just gonna focus on the pregnancy, the birth, and kind of the the early parenting and how you can really step into parenting as powerful as you can. So I hope that you enjoy, and thanks again for watching. Thanks for all of your support, and have a great day.
