How to savor your life more

Alexandra J. Johnson teaches a mindfulness practice called snapshots to help you savor life in stressful moments. The technique is about pausing to tune into the present and appreciate what's happening around you right now.
Hello, I'm Alexandra J. Johnson, and welcome to the video on how to savor your life more. And I'm going to introduce to you a practice that I use and I call it snapshots, because you're like taking a picture snapshot. So how you do this practice and how you savor your life more is the cue or the trigger when you need to use this practice is when you're feeling stressed, you're feeling overwhelmed, you're feeling rushed, just like life is crappy and you're just irritable. So those are all good triggers. If you're ever feeling those, then this is when you can introduce the snapshot practice. And how you do the snapshot practice is you're feeling those things. Most of the time when we are stressed and overwhelmed and feeling rushed, we're in our head, we're thinking, we're planning, we're organizing. We're not present to what is actually happening right now in this moment. Happening with our loved ones, happening with the people around us, happening with nature, with the sky. Just. We are oblivious. We are in a trance. So. So it's an amazing way to kind of step out of that thinking trance that we can get into when it stresses us out. We can take 10 to 30 seconds. Imagine that you're taking a snapshot, a photograph. Like, what do you want to etch into your soul in that moment? Like, breathe and take it in and just look and feel into. Okay, what do I not want to miss about this moment? What can I savor and just really linger in that space? And we're not talking for a long period of time. Like I said, 10, 20, 30 seconds. Just take that time, breathe and settle in and appreciate and be grateful for your amazing life and be grateful for the trees around you. Be grateful for your husband, for your children, for your wife, for your whoever is in your area and just snap it snapshot and etch it in your heart. I do this often with my son and my hubby. And if I'm holding Emerson, I'll just, you know, I take it in, I breathe, you know, I smell his hair and I just touch him. And I'm just so present, tapping into my senses and I realize, like, he's not going to be this little baby forever and I don't want to miss it. I want to savor it. So anytime that I'm feeling rushed or we gotta go or he's not doing what I wish he was doing, I'm like, okay, snapshot time. Step back, step back from the thinking the forcing, the pushing, the needing things to be a certain way. And just rest in the moment, savor and linger and appreciate what is happening right here and right now. I promise this practice will totally change your experience. And every time that I do it, I really feel like I get emotional. I get emotional about how blessed I am and how precious life is and how much we waste life on stupid crap thinking and over analyzing and stressing and doubting and being in fear. That is a waste of life force. So for me, this is an amazing practice to just come back to what is important. Don't miss your life as it's happening right here and right now. Tune into your senses, tune into your breath and just enjoy. Enjoy your life. So that is the practice. That's the idea. And it's an amazing practice. You can always pull it out of your back pocket and say, I'm going to take a snapshot. Ha. Decompress, relax, breathe and be grateful and savor, savor, savor. So I hope this idea was helpful. I hope that you use it and please let me know other ways that you savor in your daily life and if you have any other tips, tips or ideas on how to really appreciate our precious life and have a gorgeous day.
