Alexandra Johnson makes the case for play as essential to mental health and creativity. She shares personal tips for adding more playfulness to your day and references an interview with Gwen Gordon about why joy matters.
Hi everyone, it's Alexandra. So today's video is very exciting and simple and the idea is play. So adding more play and fun and joy to your life. And I just recently interviewed Gwen Gordon for my Rock youk Goddess Life radio show and she's awesome and she's creating a film called Seriously. And you can go to seriouslythemovie.com and check it out. But it's all about how play can change the world needed for all of us if we actually want to self actualize and make the change that we need in the world to make the world a better place. And it's fantastic. So recommend you checking that out. And then also just a little tip to remind you to play, to have fun, to bring joy to your life. And I think for so many of us, we just get, especially in the Western culture, there's almost like an addiction to being stressed and overwhelmed and everything needed to be serious and we just stress ourselves out. But there's always the choice to how can I add play? How can I add fun? How can I add joy into this moment, to this experience and just have more fun? I also think we have a tendency to be perfectionists and we need to give up the perfectionist tendencies that stress us out and just allow life to flow and allow our creativity to flow and just relax and surrender a lot more. So that's the thing that I wanted to share today and there's a great quote. The opposite of play is not work, it is depression. So I think this is so, so true. If you are feeling anxious or depressed or just check in with your play, how much are you playing? Do you feel that there's an inner joy and fun to everyday life and if there isn't, start brainstorming and do simple things. And as many of you know, I love to shake my booty. So if that's one of the best ways that you can do it, if you want to turn some music on and just shake it up, get your booty flowing, that's like fun. And just shake it, sing, you know, bring out the microphone, bring out the air guitar, whatever it does, whatever you need to do to bring yourself to that joy, to that, to that giggle, to that laughter, to feeling, play in your everyday life. So this is just a lovely little reminder to stop stressing, don't be overwhelmed, relax, breathe, play, enjoy your life. We only live once. And I mean, maybe if you believe in reincarnation, which one of my mentors, Terry Cole Whitaker, said, if you believe in reincarnation, then this is the life that you are dying to live. So you gotta live it out. You need to have fun. You need to enjoy it. So finding ways that you can nourish yourself through play is so, so important. And I know a lot of us think that it's frivolous and we don't have time to play, but we actually don't. We don't have the luxury of not playing. It is so important to our vitality and to feeling alive and fulfilled. You need to feel playful and you know, unwind and be joyful. So that's what I wanted to share with you today. Add some play into your daily life today. Maybe shake your booty, go to the beach, go on a hike, play with your dog, play a game with your kid. Whatever it is, do something playful and fun today and make sure you laugh. Okay? Have a wonderful one. And until next time, food.
