Alexandra Johnson argues that saying yes to life's challenges and frustrations, not just the good parts, opens you to more joy and creativity. She shares personal examples of how acceptance and openness change what's possible.
Hi, everyone. It's Alexandra. So today's video is say yes to Life. And this is a practice that I've been working with for a while now, and it's essentially an experiment that I'm inviting you to play with this week. And it's very simple. You just say yes to life. You say yes to everything that is happening in your life as it's happening. You say yes to the wonderful things. You say yes to the things that frustrate you, irritate you, make you upset and you think are wrong and it should be different than it is. And it's a really great practice because we're so used to resisting. We're resisting ourself. We're resisting circumstances, we're resisting our life in many ways. There's dog barking, and we get upset about the dog barking. But has it ever helped to actually get upset about the dog barking? I don't know about you, but usually when I'm frustrated with a circumstance or something, like the dog barking as an example, it doesn't change anything. It actually. I end up feeling worse and I become more frustrated. So the practice in that example would be, I say yes to the dog barking. I accept that the dog is barking right now. I actually don't get upset about dogs barking. But this is just an example. I will share what I had to work on this morning in a moment. So the practice would be, yes, the dog is barking and just accepting that the dog is barking. And we just. When we say yes, there is an opening. There's something that happens in our brain where we can actually open up to it and say, yes, the dog's barking. It's not that big of a deal. Or turn it into something fun. When we say yes, there's more creativity, there's more fun, there's more joy, there's more aliveness that happens when we say yes. So saying yes to it. I mean, if you're in traffic, you could be upset about being trafficked for two hours, or you could decide you're gonna have a dance party and shake it up for two hours, or call a friend and have the most amazing conversations. Conversation for two hours that you wouldn't have had if you weren't in traffic. So there's always amazing opportunities for us to open up to new possibilities and have fun. So, yes, say yes to Life. And I will share this morning. I definitely used this practice. I had a day planned today that was just gonna be, like, rock star and awesome. And I woke up this morning and I was like, I'm really tired. I'm just tired. I don't want to get out of bed. And then I found myself being a little upset that I was tired and like, I shouldn't be tired. I got plenty of sleep. Why am I tired? And I just noticed I started feeling a little cranky. Can ask my husband if I was a little cranky? And then I was just laying in bed and I was like, I say yes. I say yes to being tired today. I say yes that I'm feeling sleepy and tired and I just want to lay in bed. And the more that I just accepted it and was cool being tired, then within a few minutes I'm like, okay, great. And now what needs to get done? I got up, meditated, went for a walk. Now I'm drinking green juice, doing my video. And life goes on. And it goes on much smoother when we say yes and don't actually argue with reality. And I love the quote by Byron Katie, where she was talking about arguing with reality and saying, when I argue with reality, I lose, but only 100% of the time. So if we're arguing with reality, we're losing. We're setting ourselves up to lose and feel miserable and unhappy. So why not just say yes? Say yes, yes, yes to life. Say yes to all the wonderful things in your life. Like for me, I say yes to this vegetable juice. I say yes to my awesome husband, to my amazing little dog, to my beautiful home, to everything. Like, I say yes and really acknowledge all the good things in your life and start seeing all the amazing things that are in your life and the things that are not so great, say yes to them too. And it doesn't mean that you're saying yes to it forever. You know, if you're saying, yes, I feel a little big today, or I feel unhappy or I feel depressed, doesn't mean you're saying, I am going to be depressed. I'm okay being depressed for the rest of my life. It means no. Right in this moment, this is what I'm feeling and I accept it. And when we actually accept it, then truly just say yes. We'll feel a relief in our body. There'll be a release. And like, and from that place, not the fighting and not from the resisting, we can actually change. We can actually do what needs to get done. You can actually get up and work out and move and make daily habits that inspire you and optimize your life. And the more that we can accept and not resist and fight ourselves, our loved ones, our world, we're in a better place. We are in a better place in ourself. And we can therefore change ourselves and help change the world. So that's the video for today. I hope that you. I hope you practice, and I look forward to hearing how it goes for you. Playing with everything and saying yes, yes, yes. I say yes to my life. Yes. Okay. Have a wonderful day. And until next time. What?
