Self Care for Mama Goddesses

Alexandra Johnson talks directly to mothers about why self-care matters when you're exhausted. She shares personal struggles with motherhood stress and offers practical ways to rest, simplify your life, and ask for help without guilt.
Hello. Hello, Alexandra here. Hope you're having a wonderful day. So today's video is self care for mama Goddesses. And I just did a little bit of self care for myself and went for a run. And I was just thinking into how important this is for mamas to actually take care of themselves. And so I came home and here we are all sweaty in my workout clothes, which isn't anything new. I'm usually in workout clothes, but hair not washed. Yeah, that's kind of the same too. My hair's. I don't wash my hair that often and I have no makeup. So here we are. This is more important to me. It inspires me more than doing that. So here we are. Yeah. All right. So with that being said, I want to start off with the challenges of motherhood. And, you know, motherhood is a labor of love. And Rick Hanson and his wife said in one of their books, you know, that labor actually starts not in the birthing process, but it's actually, you know, in the months, the years following that is the true labor. And that actually, in that labor is actually when mothers get really depleted. They just get, you know, know, tired and overwhelmed and exhausted. And it's so common in our culture for mothers to be super tired, stressed and overwhelmed and just fatigued and trying to do it all. So I honor the challenge. I know being a mother for the, you know, 15 months now, like, it is way challenging than I thought it was going to be. How to balance, you know, everything that I want to do and how I can love my little man up. And yeah, it's just, it is a constant mommy dance that I'm learning along the way. And I have, you know, lots of days where I'm feeling really good and some days where I'm feeling not so good. But that is all part of the process. And, you know, in our business, we give scholarships to people who need some extra love and support for our products and courses and things like that. And we have at least one story every single day that's from a mother, whether she's married or a single mother. But it is a mother's story of her caring for her children and struggling financially, not having, you know, the resources and the time and the money and the energy. And it's literally every time I read one of those, I just get tears in my eyes and I want to reach the computer and send that woman, like, give her a big hug and send her some home cooked meals and money and a massage and just. Yeah, it's intense. It is intense. For mothers nowadays. So I'm going to honor that challenge. And also, I just. If you're a mother watching this, whether you're tired or not, like, I see you, I know how hard you work. I mean, I just get emotional thinking about it. Like, the mothers that I talk to and seeing how hard they work, like, from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed for the love that they have for their families and then just them. Them being last on the list. Sorry, I wasn't expecting that. So, yeah, I totally, totally get it. So you mothers are the most powerful and the most resilient and amazing people on the planet. And even if the culture doesn't value it, we need to value it. And so many of us do value it. We don't value ourselves enough to actually get what we need so that we can flourish and we can stay happy and stay connected to our heart and really, really be a demonstration for our kids. So with that, I have some ideas for you that can help you. I'm just looking at my notes. Oh, I did want to say what inspired this video as well is I personally just the last couple days, I felt, like, not super sparkly, as I say, and just kind of tired and just knowing that I need to refuel. But I was, like, not doing it. I noticed I wasn't doing it, and then I just felt it in my throat, and I was like, ah, I really need to rest more. I'm like, oh, but I got to do this and I got to do that. And just this morning I woke up and I was like, enough, enough, enough like that crap. It's not crap. It's good things. Things that need to get done at some point, But I don't need to do it today. And what I need, my body, my mind, everything about me is telling me that I need to rest. I need to get out there and run and make my green juice and all of these things that sometimes we can put off because we have things to do. But there's nothing more important than you being plugged into your higher self. Nothing more important than you taking care of your body. So I'm in this with you as well. I'm finding my balance and in my dance as well. And that's why I just thought it would be really helpful for me and also really helpful for you mamas out there to share some insights that I have learned on this path. Okay, so the first, like, tip, if you will, is realize that this is serious. And not, like, serious, like, all dramatic, but, like, when you're feeling tired and exhausted, that is a warning sign that you need support, you need self care, you need to take care of yourself. And until we actually acknowledge that we, we need that self care and that love and that nourishment, we're not going to do what's necessary to refill our tank. So acknowledge like there's nothing. You're not a bad mother, a bad person. If you acknowledge like, okay, you know what? I'm tired, I'm tired. I need some extra love, I need some extra, some care. That is what I'm feeling. Don't analyze it too much, just get clear that that's what's going on. And then the second thing is to give yourself perm. Like give yourself permission to take a break, to do something that nourishes you. Give yourself permission to replenish. Like say I give myself permission to rest and to take care of myself and to exercise and whatever it is that replenishes you get be completely unapologetic about you taking care of yourself. It's vital to your well being, it's vital to your family's health, it's vital to your health. You know, I think we can, we don't realize how much us not taking care of ourselves is impacting us, but it's impacting our children, it's impacting our family, it's impacting how we interact with the world. It's impacting everything. So we've got to start with the foundation. Okay, give yourself permission. The third one is simplify, which I talk about this all the time. Simplify. And by simplifying, what I mean is what is essential and essential. I mean, what lifts you up like you are in a state of very low or empty gas tank. You need to get really clear about what is essential and simplify and just do those things just until you refill your tank. And that may be half a day, a day, a week that you actually need to focus on this, but focus on it. Make this your top priority. You'll know, like for me, I know I already feel better. I made my green juice, I went for a run. I can feel it. I can feel creating that space of it's okay to rest. I can rest and, and be here and relax and let my mind calm down. Like it's gonna be okay. You'll know once you start filling up that tank. You'll be like, ah, I'm filling up, I'm filling up. You'll have that life force. So simplify, simplify, simplify. Okay, and then the last one is ask for help. This is huge for us. Like we have this weird thing in our culture that we need to do it all and that we just need run ourselves ragged. Like that's, I don't know, noble or something. It's not, it's not noble for us to be stressed and tired. And I get their circumstances and there's some moms out there that I look at what they're doing and I'm like, God bless you, you are a saint. You are a absolute saint. So there's sometimes circumstances where you literally don't have that much time or you don't have that much support, you know, that you don't have, you're not married or you don't have a great support system. Yeah. And if that's you, I don't even know. I don't even know what to say to that. I'm sorry that you don't have that support. And I hope that you look for it, like go out, look for other moms, see, just get connected to other people that can support you and help you. And people want to help. That's the thing. People want to help us thrive. Like nobody wants to see a mother suffering. So if you can just have the courage to say, I need some help. Can you please watch my kid? Can you, you know, take care of the baby while I go take a bath? Like I need to go meditate, I need to go out in nature. Whatever it is you need to, you know, after you acknowledge it and give yourself permission, you need to step up and say, okay, I'm going to meet these needs. I am committed to getting my needs met. And I am going to find whatever way that I can to actually fill up my tank because it is important. It's important to me, it's important to my children, it's important to my husband. It is important that I honor my self care needs. So that's it. Ask for help and let go of. We have stories and I have this. Yes, I have this. And it's annoying sometimes, but you compare yourself to other people. Like, oh, that mom looks like she's handling it perfectly and she looks amazing and wow, she's running that business. Or she has 20 kids, I only have one. Whatever the story is, stop the comparing. We are all different, we're all unique. And I'm saying this to you as, I'm saying it to myself as well because I need this wisdom too, that we just need to honor our own life path. We need to honor our path of motherhood and it's different for each one of us. I personally need a fair amount of self care to feel all sparkly and plugged in and it's been a challenge for me to actually ask for help and get the support that I need. But I know that every time that I do that and I fill up, I can breathe, life feels lighter and more joyful and I feel more loving and compassionate and present and all things yummy. So the thing is self care, whenever we do it, it leads to all things good and delicious. So let's do it mamas. And one last thing is a quote by David Allen. It says that you can do anything but you can't do anything, everything. And I come back to this often. I can do anything but I can't do everything. So what is it that you are going to do? What is important for you? Your health and your family's health and take the time, the money, the energy, the resources to make that happen. Your self care is important and important and we need a lot more sparkly mama goddesses out there. So I'm sending you lots and lots of love and I know this is a long so thank you for sticking with me if you're still here and have a, have a great, have a, have a, have a great great day and until next time I send you lots of sparkly self care mojo.
