What to do when you’re feeling tired! :)

Alexandra Johnson talks about managing tiredness from weaning her daughter and hormonal changes tied to her menstrual cycle. She shares strategies for self-care and planning around low-energy periods.
Hi everyone, it's Alexandra. Hope you're having a wonderful day. So today's video is about what to do when you're tired. And I'm tired today. So I just thought this would be a really. I think it's an important conversation because, you know, we have some days where we just are tired and I'll just share a little about what's going on for me and then what I'm going to do about it and how I'm going to approach that and what I've learned from it, etc. Etc. So currently I am weaning my daughter. She's three and a half and we're on day five of weaning. But she has decided that she wants to go to bed at about 9:30 and wake up at 5:30, which just isn't enough sleep for me. Like I'm losing like an hour of sleep and this mama needs her sleep. So that's the first thing. Second thing, I'm on the second day of my cycle. And the third thing is with the weaning, I can also just feel my body shifting and changing hormonally because I'm no longer, you know, in the process of making milk. So there's just that whole shifting from that I can feel on my body. So I just feel weaker and tired. And so there's a few things that I noticed when I'm weak, when I feel weaker and tired. One, I'm just a little bit more irritable. Two, I also am less intentional and it's easier for me to be distracted. So today I just didn't really follow through as well as I would have liked to. And I was distracted and just was just not feeling it. And so there's a few things on that. One, I tried to rest as much as I could with two kids. And then the other thing was just to do what I know needed to get done. Do the dishes, clean the chicken coop, walk, meditate, do those things even though I felt tired. So I think there's also benefit of allowing yourself to feel tired, but then also to do the things that you say you wanted to do. So that I think is important when we're tired. And the second thing is to like, look at why you think you are tired, which I talked about why I think that I'm tired, what, what that is. And then what I've learned from this experience is what I'm going to take into my next month for my cycle, that I don't think I gave myself adequate time to really do the self care that I needed, especially with the emotional process of weaning my daughter and then the physical process and I just didn't calculate that very well. And I think especially during this time for women we really need to carve out self care. And I need a lot of self care during this time. And I've been doing these videos and I've been writing and doing stuff like that, which I love, I love, love, I love instead of like when I don't have the kids, that's what I've been doing instead of doing more self care. So for me, the next month, when that is cycle comes around, I am going to plan a little bit more and give myself more space to do less self care, maybe create less, figure out what that dynamic is just so that I can navigate this without feeling tired. And of course I'm going to feel tired again. But these are just some things that I am thinking about and contemplating today that I'm going to implement and change the next month. And kind of my if then planning is if I wake up tired because I will have another day, I'm sure that I'm tired. I haven't felt like this in a long time though, but because usually I feel pretty good. But if I wake up feeling tired, I also know that I am going to get clear on what I intend to do that day and then stay focused, not allow myself to be distracted and just like yeah, it was just like a day. I'm sure you've had those days. We all have those like days like if I didn't have two kids, I probably just would have laid on the couch and read a book all day. But that isn't my current reality anyways. So that's it. I will get more focused. If then planning I will get. If I wake up tired, I will be a little bit more organized and plan and then also give my spouse self space to take a nap. See I'm, I'm just like tired. All right, so that's, that's it for the video today. I hope that this is helpful. What do you do when you're tired? What have you learned? What do you notice at this time of your cycle? I'm loving talking about these cycles like on day two of your menstruation and just I would love to hear your, your experience and what you do during this time to maybe help elevate yourself and to feel a little bit more energetic when maybe it's a little bit more of a lower energy time and that's it. I know next week, my cycle is going to be changing, and things are going to be changing. So right now I'm just. Just kind of riding the wave. And I'm going to go to bed very soon. All right? So I hope you have a wonderful day, and I send you lots of love and good sleep for you and for me. All right, Bye.
