Multicenter, retrospective analysis of the Pan-Asian Resuscitation Outcomes Study (PAROS) pediatric sub-study (data contributed from 12 sites across seven countries) assessing epidemiology, pre-hospital interventions, and factors associated with survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in patients <17 years between January 2009 and December 2012. Among 974 pediatric OHCA cases (1.5% of PAROS database), overall survival-to-discharge was 8.6% (range 0–9.7%) and 3.7% survived with good neurological outcome (CPC 1–2). Independent pre-hospital predictors of survival included witnessed arrest and initial shockable rhythm; subgroup analyses showed pre-hospital advanced airway associated with survival in children <13 years, and bystander CPR and shockable rhythm associated with survival in adolescents (13–17 years). The study highlights wide between-country variation in bystander CPR rates and EMS delivery as possible drivers of outcome differences.
