A short conversational transcript (YouTube) in which the speaker describes a personal motivation to help people 'wake up happier' after witnessing a family member's depression. The dialogue emphasizes the role of community as a key support during life transitions (e.g., military-to-civilian) and frames community-building as central to mental health and smoother transitions.
That's really my goal right now on Earth is to help humans wake up happier.
One of the things that I noticed, just sort of following your trajectory as your impact has grown. You're big on communities, and you've been really militant about your ingredients. And I think there's a community forming around that.
When I was younger and I saw my dad struggling with some mental health thing, he was the happiest human on Earth I've ever met. He was such a good guy. And the last year of his life, I saw him really depressed and he didn't have an outlet, and I was just seeing the sorrow on his face. And then when I saw what happened and how that happened, my goal was to help people wake up happier. Everyone on this Earth is going to go through transitions, but what happens when you enter the military for eight years and you have to go back into civilian life? What do you do at transition? The best way for people to transition is to have a good community around them.
