A brief conversational excerpt from a YouTube video (hosted/created by Darrian Peck) discussing the parallels between individual sports—specifically bodybuilding and fighting—and the heightened need for self-reliance and discipline in those sports, since athletes lack team-based external motivation and must resist the temptation to 'cheat' when unobserved.

I think there's a lot of similarities between bodybuilding and fighting in that they're very individual sports. You know, you don't have this team camaraderie around you, the responsibility to like 11 other guys or 20 other guys in the locker room every day to kind of give you the motivation when you don't have it. So I assume you just got to rely on discipline. But there's a lot of times when nobody's looking at you and then you could sneak and cheat if you wanted to and nobody would know. I mean, your coach would probably know because he would look at your body, he would know we got going on, he would know. But what I'm saying is like I find these journeys to be really particularly inspiring because they're very self reliant journeys. I think so many of us, when nobody's looking, we compromise on our own goals. And when you're in a team, in a group sport, you've got a lot of other reasons to be motivated. But you know, when you're a fighter or when you're a bodybuilder, it's just you against yourself.
