I think most people think the immune system's sole role is to protect us, which it does from things, pathogens, viruses, bacteria. But a large role of the immune system is to police ourselves. We don't realize how much policing of our own physiology, the immune system does. Senescent cells, circulating, tumor cells, effectively supporting good DNA methylation. All of these things that are going on, the immune system is that watchdog. So it's not only protecting the community, it's also policing the community.
