Welcome to the Friday Reset, The Butterfly Effect. This episode is the antidote to the heaviness you are feeling in this complicated world. Welcome to More Human, More Kind, the podcast for parents of LGBTQ+ kids and anyone trying to stay human in a world that keeps hardening. I'm Heather Hester, and here we talk about fear, belonging, boundaries, courage, love, and what it means to protect what matters without losing yourself in the process. Your child doesn't just need a parent who's informed, they need a parent who is grounded and strong. Let's take a breath and let's begin. Welcome to More Human, More Kind. I'm Heather Hester. This new series of episodes are meant to be a space for you to just slow down, to come back to yourself, to get grounded, to gently integrate what we've been exploring together this week. Insight can be really powerful, but it's also the small, steady shifts that actually change how we live. How we love, and how we show up for the people who matter most. Each Friday, I'll offer you one word, one small action, one quiet act of courage, and one sentence you can carry with you. Not to overwhelm you, but to remind you that even in uncertain, heavy, or complicated times, you are not powerless. Small shifts create real change, and this is where we practice that together. This week, we talked about those moments when you receive a message, whether it's a text or an email, a voicemail, a comment of some kind that doesn't just feel off, it feels wrong in your body. The kind of message that makes your stomach drop. That activates something deeper than just a simple disagreement. And in Tuesday's episode, we walked through how to respond without losing yourself. But today's episode isn't about what to say. It's about how to stay grounded in yourself before, during, and after those moments. I want you to know that even when you respond exactly how you want to, when you respond beautifully, even when you set the boundary, even when you stay calm and aligned, that feeling can still linger. You might replay the words or the feeling that you've had, the responses that went back and forth, or all of the above. You might second-guess yourself or feel the weight of what wasn't said or what was. That doesn't mean that you did it wrong. It means that you are human. So your word of the week is aligned. Not perfect, not convincing, not understood by everyone. Aligned. Your micro rebellion this week is to choose not to engage in a conversation that pulls you out of yourself. In a world that rewards reaction, this is quiet power. Your one line to steal is: I'm not available for this conversation, but I care about our relationship. I'm not available for this conversation, but I care about our relationship. It's simple, clear, kind, done. Your tiny action is this: the next time something doesn't sit right with you, before you respond or decide not to respond, Pause and ask yourself, "What would it look like to stay aligned with myself right now?" Not "what will make them understand?" or "what will keep the peace?" Just "what keeps me grounded, clear, and honest?" Then take one small step from that place. Most of us were never taught how to stay grounded in moments like this. We were taught to keep the peace, to be agreeable, or to defend our position. But alignment asks something different. It asks us to pause, to listen inward, and trust ourselves enough to respond or not respond from that place. So if this felt hard this week, or if it stirred something in you, that doesn't mean that you're doing it wrong. It just means that you're doing it differently. Not every conversation needs your voice. Some need your boundary. And sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is to stay rooted in who you are. Even when someone else doesn't understand it. I'm so glad that you were here. I'm so glad that you are doing this work, and I'm so glad that you are choosing to show up with intention and moments that matter.
