NIBF SPORTSMANSHIP TOUR re MASTER 2024

The video interweaves energetic rap verses, crowd chants, and basketball‑themed call‑and‑response segments with a lengthy spoken presentation by a descendant of James Naismith (identified as Jim Naismith, likely John Naismith). The rap sections convey personal struggle, defiance, and a desire for redemption, while the chant portions celebrate basketball culture. The centerpiece is the Naismith Sportsmanship Tour, a family‑run foundation aimed at spreading sportsmanship, respect, positive role modeling, and teamwork through basketball. The speaker recounts the family’s historic legacy—including the Maud Naismith Award and original 1931 basketball rules—explains how the tour has reached hundreds of thousands of people, and critiques the modern commercialization of basketball that prioritizes profit over education and character. He argues that basketball should serve as a vehicle for education, calls for age‑limit reforms in the NBA, and urges athletes to embrace their role‑model responsibilities. The overall narrative moves from personal expression to a collective appeal for preserving the original values of the game.

Think about these words before I say 'em, 'cause ain't no way I'm gonna let you stop me from causing mayhem. When I say I'mma do something, I do it. I don't give a damn what you think. I'm doing this for me, so fuck the world. Feed it beans, it's gassed up. Everything's stopping me. I'm gonna be what I set out to be without a doubt, undoubtedly. And all those who look down on me, I'm tearing down your balcony. No offense, but don't try to ask him why, how can he? From Infinite down to that last relapse album, he still's fucking whether he's on salary, paid hourly, until he bows out or he fucks his bowels out of him, whichever comes first, for better or worse. Married to the game like I fucked you for Christmas. His gift is a curse. Forget the Earth, he's got the urge to pull this shit from the dirt and fuck the whole universe.
I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid to take a stand. Take a stand.
Everybody.
Everybody. Come take my hand. Come take my hand. We'll walk this road together through the storm. Whatever weather, cold or warm. Just letting you know that you're not alone. Holla if you feel like you've been kicked down the same road.
And cut the crap. I shouldn't have to rhyme these words in a rhythm for you to know it's a rap. You said you was king, you lied through your teeth. For that, fuck your feelings. Instead of getting crowned, you're getting capped. And to the fans, I'll never let you down again.
I'm back.
I promise to never go back on that promise. In fact, let's be honest, that last relapse CD was eh. Perhaps I ran them accents into the ground. Relax, I ain't going back to that now. All I'm trying to say is get back, click, clack, clout. 'Cause I ain't playing around. It's a game called circling. I don't know how. I'm way too woke to back down. But I think I'm still trying to figure this crap out. Thought I had it mapped out, but I guess I didn't. This fucking black cloud still follows me around, but it's time to exorcise these demons. These motherfuckers are doing jumping jacks.
Not afraid, I'm not afraid to take a stand, take a stand. Everybody, everybody, come take my hand, come take my hand. We'll walk this road together through the storm, whatever weather, cold or warm. Just letting you know that you're not alone. I love you. You feel like you've been down the same road, and I just can't keep living this way. So starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage. I'm standing up, I'mma face my demons. I'm manning up, I'mma hold my ground. I've had enough, now I'm so fed up. Time to put my life back together right now.
It was my decision, I probably did it subliminally for you so I could come back a brand new me. You helped see me through and don't even realize what believe me, you, I've been through the wringer, but they can do little to the middle finger. I think I got a tear in my eye, I feel like the king of my world. Haters can make like bees with no stingers and drop dead. No more beef flingers, no more drama. From now on, I promise to focus solely on handling my responsibilities as a father. So I solemnly swear to always treat this roof like my daughters and raise it. You couldn't lift a single shingle on it. 'Cause the way I feel, I'm strong enough to go to the club or the corner pub and lift the whole liquor counter up, 'cause I'm raising the bar. I shoot for the moon, but I'm too busy Busy gazing at stars, I feel amazing and I'm not afraid.
I'm not afraid to take a stand. Take a stand. Everybody, everybody, come take my hand.
Come take my hand.
We'll walk this road together through the storm, whatever weather comes along. Just letting you know that you're not alone. I hope that you feel like you've been down the same road.
They're playing basketball.
We love that basketball.
They're playing basketball.
We love that basketball.
They're playing basketball. We love that basket— They're playing basketball. We love that basketball.
I like slam dunks, take me to the hoop. My favorite play is the alley-oop. I like the pick and roll, I like the give and go, cuz it's basketball. Mr. Kirtch is— I used to go to dinner, then take Curry, see Tiny play against Earl Pearl, and Will Big O and Jerry West play basketball at its very best. Basketball has always been my thing. I like Magic Bird and Bernard King, and number 33, my man Curry, is the center of my starting team.
Watch out, watch out, in your face!
Here comes West, Clyde, Rick Barry, and Pistol Pete. Now these players you could never beat. Isaiah and Iceman too, just give them the ball and then you chalk up 2.
Bradley and Williams are on the scene, and Ralph Sampson is really mean.
Bill Russell didn't—
To the hoop, y'all! Now get on down! Oh yeah, I like this basketball jam. Now here I go in your—
He is basket!
Me and homeboy would go one-on-one 'cause playing the game is a lot of fun. Sit by the TV and watch 'em all 'cause Curtis blows repping basketball.
Man, did you see that boy earlier tonight take that thing up in Ewing's face?
Yeah, he's bad, but I like Michael Jordan.
Make a man win. What about if Russell had the championship ring? Don't you get them points?
That's all I ever had. I don't know about that.
Let's play basketball!
Oh yeah, to the hoop!
Let's play basketball! Sportsmanship Tour.
The purpose of the foundation is, uh, we're on a mission to spread sportsmanship, respect, positive role modeling, dignity. Teamwork within the game of basketball. You may get 400 or 500 people a day, you may get 200, you may get 50. I thought we needed to take our message on the road, which had never been done before. And so I put together what I call the Naismith Sportsmanship Tour, which is where we're at now. It's been successful beyond my dreams. I mean, we've been before almost a million people. And I actually planned to do it only 2 years. I'm going into my 3rd year and I'm already committing into the 4th year. Because it's doing what I wanted to do, and that's spread— what we're trying to do is save a game from greedy, self-serving people. It's very simple. It's a family game. We gave it to the world not to be abused, to be used. Jerry Hughes, the athletic director, said, you know, we have a Naismith Trophy in our trophy case, and because I'm on the board of the Hall of Fame and because I've run the foundation, family foundation, I couldn't visualize what award he had because they'd never received a Naismith Award. So I asked him, I said, what Naismith Award do you have? And he said the Maud Naismith Award, which was a shock to me because my grandmother died in 1936. My grandfather made a beautiful large award for sportsmanship in her name called the Maud Naismith Award. And we have pictures of him holding the award, but we thought it did— we never knew where it went. And in fact, it was presented to the school here, and it was in the trophy case. And we thought it disappeared in the '30s. So we immediately left lunch, they brought me over here, and I got goosebumps all over me still when I look at that award. Because here it's still alive and well, and it's right here in Warrensburg. So we say the Naismiths are returning to Warrensburg, which I didn't know. And that's a very, very strong story with me, the fact my grandfather was here, and here we are here doing the same thing some 60 years later. This is the document that he actually put on the bulletin board that morning at 11:30. It's called the Holy Grail of Basketball. It's also called the Constitution of Basketball. And this is a piece— these two pieces of paper have been in the family 112 years. And the name basketball, you can see at the top, he wrote on there and he signed at the bottom in Authenticated the rules in 1931 while he was at the University of Kansas. These were his prized possessions. As a basketball family, we had to ask ourselves when we started getting distressed with the lack of sportsmanship and respect and whatnot, should we do something? And my family met in 1994, first time ever, about the game of basketball. My brother, sister, and I are the owners. And we said, yeah, we can't— if we don't step up and say something, how can we anticipate other people will? It's our responsibility. We're the caretakers. So, uh, we've been out there about almost 7 years now, and we're very serious about it, and the movement's going very well. Grandfather gave this game to the world. I have thousands of people when I'm on tour, like I am now, come up and— what you said kept me out of trouble, whatever— let me become an attorney, let me become a doctor. I got an education because of basketball. That's what it's about. Now it's become a vehicle not to go to school. It's become a feeding frenzy. If a kid's got talent, my God, they're sitting at the breakfast table feeding him Wheaties. You know, and so it's completely reversed, and the family is very much opposed to this. It should be a game that aids in education. Get your education, you can fall back on it. If this kid from Akron, Ohio gets a terminal injury and loses his career, they'll throw him away like a dishrag, and he won't be educated and have no way to make a living. Now maybe he already has money, but you see what I'm getting at. I've heard nobody be concerned about the boy. And this is what we're concerned about as a family, and that's the reason we're preaching sportsmanship. When I hear an athlete of any level say, "I don't want to be anybody's role model," that's a cop-out. You're a role model. How good are you going to be? Will you carry the baggage? Will you accept the fact you're a role model? Will you be a positive role model instead of a negative role model? When I'm talking to grade school kids, I say, "You know, kids, I'm so old, I remember when people had good attitudes." Anybody here hear about good attitudes? 500 kids never heard about good attitude. I said, isn't that a shame? You used to come and say, "How you doing today?" That was a good attitude. Now it's attitude. It's got to be bad. You know, we need to change these things. Values don't need to change. Basketball changes. People say, "Well, Nate Smith, you want everything to stay the same." Nothing stays the same. Sportsmanship, respect, dignity, positive role modeling, teamwork can stay the same and should. And we're not buying the other answers. It's that simple. The education, they should, in my opinion, not all students can go all the way through university. We understand that. But at least make the attempt if it's possible. And if not, polish the game. You know, get a minimum age in the NBA. People say that's taking away their right to work. No, no. Basketball is a game. It's a sport. It's supposed to be. Now, if it's a pure old business, let's admit that. But as long as it's a game and a sport, you can make age rules. And this is one of my crusades.
Kids.
Let's grow these kids up some more. But all they're trying to do is mine for— again, it's all greed. They're trying to mine their abilities and they're forgetting the kids. And I see kids that have a lot of talent mentally who they want to be the next Michael Jordan. I'm going to tell you something, it's going to be a long time for another Michael Jordan. And the good thing about Michael Jordan, he's a good sportsman. But to get the combination athlete and sportsman, is very hard to—
