Ian Naisler, James Naismith's grandson, says basketball has been prostituted for profit. Naismith invented the game to improve lives, but commercialization has buried that purpose. Naisler made his complaint public in USA Today.
This is Ian Naisler. His grandfather James invented basketball. Grandson is happy about the growth of the game, but not everything that's come with the growth pleases him.
He wanted to give the game to the world to make the world a better place. Oh, that's a nice legacy. Well, it is, but now I'm aggravated because, you know, I just had an article on the front page of USA Today, full front page. I'm saying, you know, we gave this game to the world, but not to be prostituted about everybody in the world.
That's true. Everybody else makes a dime on it.
No, it's not just making a dime. Dime's one thing. You making $30, $40 million contracts, contracts for college coaches, and $2 million for athletic director.
