And who do you need to become in order to stand in that vision of yourself, the desires that you have, the life or the business you want to build, who do you need to become in order to create it? This is your Badass Journey podcast. I am Kareen Walsh, serial entrepreneur, growth strategist, executive leadership coach and bestselling author. Each week I will bring you a guest or thought that will help you align what you love with what you do in order to build that badass life and business you dream of. Welcome listeners to today's episode. It is a direct to you conversation. I am purposely not sharing interviews with you this month because I feel like I haven't talked to you enough. And when I have checked in with myself, there is so much that I want to share when it comes to your up leveling journey. I realized that something that for today I wanted to dialogue on because some of you might be going through this alongside me in that when we are looking to up level and what that means to me is becoming that next version of ourselves. so a leveling is not something to be comparing yourself to someone else and what they have achieved, but it's really about where you are taking yourself next and that evolution in who you truly want to become and what happens sometimes. And it's kind of happening to me right now, which is why I wanted to dialogue with all of you, because I'm sure you can relate, but also support me through it, just like I support you through it, is that an identity crisis. sometimes happens when you are up leveling. And I wanted to break that down with you because there are methods I use when I'm feeling a bit uneasy or sitting in resistance around who I believe I need to become in order to stand in the version of my life or the end business that I want to create for myself requires me to self-identify a certain way to show up in it all. And it's not so clear to us when we're in it, right? In the middle of that up leveling or questioning, you know, should I go forward with this or is this right for me? You know, the testing cycles that are required in order to realize which part of what you have done or who you have become do you want to identify with, like take that with you and what parts no longer are welcome, like they just don't fit. So what happens? Like what happens in that moment? Well, for some we shut down. We shut down completely because it feels so scary or it's out of our comfort zone or we're kind of needing to stretch beyond what we know. And we lean more into fear of that change versus fuel for what we truly need in order to become who we desire. And that fuel comes from breathing life into that vision of yourself, that ultimate life vision, which we talk about in the SLP workbook. I've talked about many times across the show. And as you listen even to my guests who come on the show as they're sharing their badass journey, where they ended up today was not an immediate vision of theirs most of the time. At the start of, let's say, their career life or how they wanted their family or where they chose to, where they currently live now might not have been clear to them. when they were chartering out towards what it is they wanted initially. But that's where they are today based on their journey. And a journey has a lot of twists and turns, right? So what we can focus on and what I've always leaned into is who do I need to become to steer that ship, to drive that vehicle to the next destination that I'm trying to go? or what do I need to do to fuel myself from the inside out to be strong enough, to be aware enough, to be alert enough to see the things that I truly desire in front of me and make it so that it is integrated into the life that I have today and also the life I want next, let's just say. So you see, I'm talking about that version control. that we've shared on past episodes. But just in case you're a new listener and you're not familiar with that vernacular or my methodology on the fact that we in our lives are constantly developing, we are a continuous development cycle. If any of you have worked in technology, you know this language for how we build products and software and mobile apps. It's a version control of the next version that so when you're looking at your phone and you constantly see these updates, it's to enhance your experience. It's to make the function easier. It's to let go of the bugs and release the things that are not working. That is what version control is. So each of us in our identity, especially when we're feeling this crisis, like I define it as crisis because we're facing a version of ourselves to that might not fit in the version we want to become, or we're looking at the future functionality and the experience we want to have in our lives and our business and realize, oh, I gotta up level, I gotta upgrade to that next version of me in my identity to stand in that system that I'm building for myself or that I want to be a part of that someone else has built. and go after that, I need to get into the next version of me. So each time, even for me, as I move through every single version of self, initially felt like an identity crisis because I realized I had to evolve and I also had to face the things of resistance that might be holding me back from going into that new version of self to create that world, that business, that connection, the health stance I wanted, that integrative stance I wanted in order to really feel amazing going after that next thing. So for you guys, I wanted to dialogue on it because, hey, like I said, I know I'm not alone in it, but if you're sitting right now, especially after this past year of for some of us was the slowness where we could face the things that definitely aren't working, but we had to kind of survive through it. And now we're feeling more of this like open energy of possibility showing up as things are opening up and more jobs are becoming available, more opportunities to connect with other people. I encourage you to do some self-reflection to figure out truly what is it that you want to be the next version of you in order to stand in that next version of the life for the business, the relationship, the health around all those five pillars that you want to create for yourself so that you can start stepping forward into it, but face where you are today and start chartering your own development goals in order to achieve that version of yourself. So if you've done any personal development work or one-on-one therapy, you know the magic of focusing on the time where you first felt something that you might be struggling with or you first saw something that you might desire for the future, yet realize that you might not quite yet have the skill or the thoughts assistant, belief system that what you truly desire is possible for you. And if you think about how you have been judged in the past or where your fear sits based on maybe someone else's belief on the life you're meant to have, and then realizing, no, I want this for me. I want to stand and identify myself this way in life. you really realize that you need the assistance, the dialogue, the method to evolve into that next version by getting the support and the help. But most of all, the first thing when it comes to identity crisis is really being clear on who you are today, what's holding you back, and where do you want to go next and figure out how to face those things. so if you read my first book, Be About Ast6cs Tools to Uplevel youe Life, you can kind of see how in my personal journey, because I share a lot of personal stories in that book, on what my personal development was from unwinding the layers of judgment that I was raised under and how to best build my own belief system that I could identify with. that made me feel whole from the inside out. Now granted, it was a continuous, it has always been a continuous development cycle and those things still show up for me. But what I shared in that book are the tools that I use to really get clear on what it means to be a badass. And to me, the way I define badass is like you're standing in your authentic self and you're showing up in life that way. you're actually taking action to really dial up the shining light on who you are and making sure that it's integrated in all that you do. So you never really stop redefining who you are. And the faster you can build the tools on that identity creation, that what's required in the moment for you to not only do your best, but feel your best doing it, aligning what you love with what you do, which you know is a theme of this show, it gives you this grounded energy, these tools, because you know that even when you fumble or even when you try something, it doesn't quite fit, you now have the toolkit to actually shift it to continuously develop and to take what you need with you forward and leave behind what no longer fits. And that's what I love about kind of testing in life the versions of myself across all the things. And granted, I've had several failures, like several things that were just not a fit. But the difference is that I use that as my fuel to guide me towards how I want to identify going forward and what I want to take with me. And I'm grateful for them because I learned something. It's why when people ask me, well, what are your biggest failures? It's really hard for me to even use that language because it's always a lesson learned. and you haven't really failed. You just learned something to guide you to your next step. But I've had some major ones. I've invested in businesses that didn't grow. I've taken courses that didn't really have the output or the desired what I thought the result would be, but I still learned something, right? And I still take it forward with me. But when it comes to really standing in the identity of self in all that you do, here are some questions I wanted to give you so that if you're in that phase of up leveling that you can ask yourself in order to stand in the version of yourself you need to be, but also face the things that might be holding you back and allow yourself truly to let go so that they no longer feel like shackles in a past version of yourself, but allow you the freedom to create the space for the version you want to be. So some of this is also in the SLP workbook you guys can grab off my site and we'll put the link in the show notes. But truly, here are some questions that are really, it's rare that you're asked this, which is why I wanted to bring it to the show, because even if this is what you focus on for this week and carve out some time to say, I need to make sure that the identity of who I need to be is something I'm clear on and working towards in order to generate and create the life and business that I truly desire for myself. So who do you need to become to create the life you truly want? We always focus on the what, the how, and the why. And I want to bring you the who, because who you need to become and who you need to be to stand in it is actually the most important question you can ask yourself and be clear on in order for you to create all the other things to stand in your why. to build the what and to figure out the how, you really need to know who. So for self-reflection, here are some questions for you. What beliefs about yourself do you need to face and let go of in order to become this version of yourself? I'll repeat it. What beliefs about yourself assistant: Do you need to face and let go of in order to become this version of yourself? So when you sit in the vision of the life that you want, and you look integratively across the five pillars, and you're really designing the journey that you want to go on, what beliefs about yourself do you need to face? The reason why that is such an important question is that if you do not believe that you are capable or that you are worthy or that it's possible that you are able to create this for yourself, those limited beliefs need to be faced in order to become this next version of yourself, in order to stand in the truth of what's needed to create that why and that ultimate vision and go stand in it. And a lot of the times without facing that, you realize you hit roadblocks in the doing and you're maybe going after the wrong connections or engaging in the and in building the wrong products because you haven't really faced the who you need to be. So what beliefs are about yourself do you need to face? and let go of. So face and realize, is it for you? Is it working for you? Or is it holding you back in order to become this version of yourself, that ultimate Vision version of yourself? Then you ask the question, what do you need to dial up about yourself that has fueled each positive step you have taken up? until this point. So a lot of the times, especially us women, we have this training from a young age to look at the gap of what we do not have in order to step into the room, in order to pull a chair up to the table, in order to really go after that career move or build that business we want, or even create that relationship or desire. we're thinking about what we do not have and we forget. And I'll guarantee what we do not have is maybe 2 to 5% of what you actually need. And that doesn't even matter because the 95, 98% of you is plenty to go after. So I love for all of you to really think about what you need to dial up about yourself. that has fueled each positive step you have taken up until this point. When you can identify with all the positive things you already have, that is the true core operating system of your identity. So dial it up. Dial it up. Because when you can lean into that, you show up even so much easier and have a willingness to learn the what's next. Like maybe you want to explore that two to 5% of what else, but I guarantee that 95 and 98% of you that you just need to dial up a little bit is plenty for you to go after what it is that you want. Third question is, who do you need to surround yourself with to flex the new mental muscles you are trying to build to become the person you to represent in this world? Who do you need to surround yourself with? This is so critical because when we are hanging around the community or the groups or the network that we've built that might reflect a past version of ourselves and we're not putting ourselves in the rooms that will challenge us and make us put a mirror up and say, oh, is this a version of me that I need to focus on or do I need to learn this skill in order to go after this next version of the system I want to build? Is this challenging me or is this shutting me down, holding me back? You need to think about who you surround yourself with to flex the new mental muscles. So this is all about your self-belief, your identity and how you identify within yourself is what you truly believe about yourself. And then you find the skills and the tools to express it. assistant: into the world. So who do you surround yourself with matters? That's a question to ask yourself. And then say, in this new identity I'm trying to form or this self-expression I want to step into or this leadership role I want to take on, who could I get into the room with in order to help me up level in a way that will be easier and actually learn from and be supported by in order to make sure that I'm not falling back into false beliefs about myself. And I'm standing in the true beliefs of who I am. So that is the third question there. But you see how asking those questions of yourself, and if you've never done this before, if you've never asked these questions, then I would sit with each question on its own. and give it some time. You know, maybe if you are someone who journals and getting your expression of self out on a cyclical basis, pick one of these questions and focus on that for the week and keep asking yourself and keep asking yourself. And I would tag on the question of what else? Like, what else? What else? What else? Because when you ask an open question like, what else? then you're actually going deeper in. And it takes like the third or fourth answer of what else to really get to the root of the answer to these questions. So hopefully this has helped you today in thinking about how you identify with yourself today and who do you need to become in order to stand in that vision of yourself, the desires that you have, the life or the business you want to build, who do you need to become in order to create it and live in it and appreciate it and stand in it every single day? I'm gonna leave the episode there because I think that was plenty for today for you guys to really work on and mull over. But I would love to hear any questions you have or any other ways you want to go deep in this category because it is crucial for us to create what we want next on our badass journey to really make sure that we are standing strong in it and feeling the truth about ourselves so that we can let go of what doesn't serve us anymore. So critical. And get rid of all those bugs in your system, right? So that you can really become that next version that operates optimally, and I would say continuously checking in on that self-identity is critical for really driving that vehicle to your next destination. I hope you found today's episode helpful and inspiring and really helping you become your best on your journey. And I will see you in the next episode. Wasn't that such a great episode?
