You know Ikea, that store that makes you build your own furniture? Well, it all started back in 1943. This 17 year old Swedish kid, Ingvar, is selling matches, seeds, watches and pens. While he's looking to branch out, he sees his competitors selling furniture and wants in on the action. But he has a big problem. Shipping furniture is a massive nightmare. Then one day he notices something. Someone is struggling to fit a table into their car. But they just pop off the legs and boom, problem solved. Cue that light bulb moment. What if we make the customer assemble the furniture? Furniture. Instantly IKEA's famous flat pack concept is born. But Ingber isn't done innovating yet. He thinks, why don't we just let customers shop around our actual warehouses? He designs this crazy maze layout that's basically the IKEA we know today. You go in for a chair, you end up buying a whole kitchen. Fast forward to today and IKEA is a multi billion dollar company with 450 stores around the world. The moral of the story, small frustrations can lead to big innovations.
