Short interview segment (Entertainment Tonight) in which grief expert David Kessler and another speaker discuss the impact of Princess Diana’s death on her sons, William and Harry. They describe Diana’s close, affectionate relationship with her children, anticipate increased sheltering and anger related to family breakup, and draw a comparison to John F. Kennedy Jr.’s experience after his father's assassination.
This moment has to be the toughest moment of their lives, the most tragic, devastating moment they will ever go through.
Diana was known for her loving and affectionate relationship with her sons, William and Harry, and she struggled to give them a normal childhood.
Princess Diana was the one who brought them out in public and took them on outings. So I think that we'll see them much more sheltered now. It's not unusual for children to have a lot of anger around their parents divorcing, or feel like maybe if there hadn't been a divorce, mother might still be alive.
The boys will need their father this weekend when they attend their mother's funeral, a painful experience not unlike John F. Kennedy Jr. S, who watched as his own father was laid to rest after his assassination in 1963.
Someday, John Kennedy might talk to those children and talk about some of the similarities they've had in their lives. Some way, somehow, their mother is still with them, and I'm sure wherever she is, she will watch over those children.
