How do I pay for hospice? Hospice is a wonderful benefit that is provided by Medicare. Medicare usually pays for 100% of the hospice care. That's including the nurses coming out, the social workers, any physician visits from the medical director that are deemed necessary, as well as the medical equipment and any medications that relate to the terminal illness. If you don't have Medicare, many state programs such as Medicaid or Medi Cal will pay for hospice in its entirety, as well as many private insurance companies will also pay for hospice.
