Yesterday, this AI artwork sold for a million dollars. It went to auction and was expected to go for 120,000, but actually went to over a million. Here's a photo of the artist here. ADA is a robotic artist using AI to create these portraits. Apparently, each portrait takes about eight hours to create, and the painting that sold for over a million was a portrait of Alan Turing. So this obviously raises some pretty big questions about art. Can AI actually create art or can only humans? These are way bigger questions than I have any qualification to talk about. I don't know, but here's something I found really interesting. This is one of the first times I've seen the BBC refer to it as art. Generally, the BBC is pretty anti AI. Lots of journalists are. I don't blame them. This article here reports on the fact that AI art by an AI artist, a robotic artist, without the general snarkiness that we're kind of used to seeing. In a weird way, to me, that is more important than the fact that this piece of art sold for a million dollars. The fact that we're even having these discussions, the fact that we can use the word artist alongside AI, that to me, seems like the big shift that's happening in the moment.
