chatgp can’t do maths? It’s not built for that - it’s a large language model

I can write boobs upside down on a calculator but I can't use it to write a novel A common criticism of AIs like ChatGPT is that they cannot do basic mathematics and this often is true. Tools like ChatGPT are large language models LLMs. The giveaway here is the second L language they use and generate language, not mathematics. We actually already have tools are really good at computing they are called computers and we've had them for quite a while so if we need something to do basic computation that is very easy. What we have now with large language models and generative AI is something new. It's a new type of tool for new types of jobs and part of the learning process is working out what we should use AI for and what we should not use AI for. If we use the right tool for the right job then our productivity will rise exponentially. If we use it on the wrong job we will be disappointed. So our maturing and learning process is learning to differentiate.
