Kyle Balmer, who has an MBA from NYU Stern, argues that traditional MBA programs waste time and money for entrepreneurs because they train you for corporate jobs, not startups. He recommends The Personal MBA instead, a condensed reference that covers what matters without the two-year commitment.

If you are an early stage business owner entrepreneur then I want to Recommend the personal MBA book. I've actually got an MBA from a top 10American business school. I went to NYU Stern over in New York to get my MBA. Even with a world class MBA though, I think that this book is stellar. The problem with MBA programs is they're not particularly suited for entrepreneurship and early stage businesses. They are, for better or worse, more for people working in corporate who are heading towards the executive suite. Also, getting an MBA means two years of not working and very very very expensive tuition fees. I was lucky that at the time I just sold a business so it was possible, but otherwise I have no idea how people do it without going into massive massive debt. This book really condenses all the information that you'd be picking up in a good MBA program, but in a much more condensed and actionable way. Normally I don't give book recommendations because I don't want to give business owners more to read, more to absorb, more to learn. You probably already have a pile of books that you should read. This book is such an amazing reference to dip in and out of that I'm making an exception in this case. Also. Massive bonus. It's all.
