YouTube commentary (creator Kyle Balmer) questioning a Goldman Sachs chart that appears to show a May 2024 decline in ChatGPT monthly visits. The presenter argues the apparent drop is an artifact: ChatGPT shifted domains (chat.openai.com → chatgpt.com), so traffic to the old URL fell while overall usage actually increased; therefore the Goldman Sachs chart is misleading and the researchers erred.

Is chatgpt really dying? You might have seen this graph going around. It's from Goldman Sachs who recently did some research showing that ChatGPT is in decline. For proof, they're using the number of monthly visits to the ChatGPT website. And you can see it drops off in May 2024. And based on this, Goldman Sachs, the bank is saying, well, ChatGPT is less popular. People are kind of getting bored of AI. The thing is, Goldman Sachs and this is a huge company with a big research department, they basically messed up here. What happened is ChatGPT changed their website address. It used to be chat.OpenAI.com that's how you access ChatGPT. But now it's directly@chatgpt.com that is why we see this drop off in traffic, because the previous site no longer exists. It redirects to chatgpt.com yet Goldman Sachs have managed to mess this up and publish this chart, which is basically wrong. This is really embarrassing and I'm sure the researchers have gotten a lot of trouble for this. In reality, the traffic has actually increased to ChatGPT in this period.
