A short advice video by Kyle Balmer warning entrepreneurs and builders against spending excessive time learning every new skill themselves. The speaker argues that personally upskilling can slow business progress and that AI is lowering the marginal value of learning certain skills (making those skills quickly accessible to others), so founders should prefer delegation or simpler solutions to move faster.

Are you guilty of this? I know I am. So whenever I'm starting a new business, a new project, whatever it is, I want to do everything myself. And because of that, I'll start to learn, study, really get into a subject for me. And I'm not sure about you guys, but that's always been a limiter for how fast I can move with a business, because I'm trying to do absolutely everything myself. I need to learn from scratch whenever a new skill is needed, which means I spend more time upskilling more time learning than actually building the business. That was always a bit of a problem because I could have just got other people to do the work, and we could have gone faster. But it's becoming even more of a problem now because of AI. The marginal value of learning these new skills is actually decreasing because AI is allowing everyone, including your competitors, to get access to these skills much faster, which means that the time you spend learning the new skill is actually leveraged. It's even more wasteful. Now, by all means, learn and upskill yourself for the fun of it, but do not allow that to get in the way of the project and the business that you are creating. If there is a simpler solution to a problem, take that first.
