Mastering Prompt Engineering: The Art of Communicating with AI

So what actually is prompt engineering? There are two levels of prompt engineering when using AI. There's the deep level when you're actually building AI applications and you're putting together a series of prompts in order to carry out a task. So that's more akin to programming, but using AI prompts in order to move the AI from one stage to the next. But we also use the term prompt engineering in a more generic sense about how we communicate with an AI. For the majority of us, those who aren't building applications, this is what we mean by prompt engineering. It's just how we talk to AI. And because our AIs are now primarily large language models, they are language based. The way that we talk to AI is through text, or as we're moving more towards, through speech. The main thing though is it's all about communication. It's about being able to talk to an AI, give it instructions, and then have the AI carry out what you want it to do. And this is why using AI is really exciting, because it doesn't require you to be a coder, it doesn't require you to know how to program in a programming language, but instead, all of a sudden, it's opened up to people who are clear communicators. So, so the important skill now is being able to communicate clearly. If you're good at writing emails, if you're good at writing instructions, if you're good at giving speeches, for example, and you're able to communicate in a clear, concise and instructive manner, then you'll be able to use AI really well.
