This Is Gemini's Most Useful Feature (That 99% Don't Know About)

Igor Pogany shows how to attach a Google Doc as a live knowledge source to a Gemini gem, so the bot answers questions based on the doc's content and instantly reflects any edits you make. It works on the free plan and stays current without refreshing.

Out of hundreds of AI features that I've looked at over the past months, this is the one that I think many people would be using if they know it existed. It's a way for your AI to dynamically get information from a source that other people can work on. And this has to be one of the most requested things I've heard people ask about when it comes to using AI over the past few years. So let me show you what I'm talking about here. It's really simple. And you can do this on a free plan inside of Gemini now. Finally. And what I'm talking about is basically the ability for Gemini, which is Google's ChatGPT competitor, to link to a Google Doc dynamically. Let me show you. You can be on any plan, including the free plan inside of Gemini here. And what you need to do is you need to navigate to these gems, which are basically a focused version of Gemini for one purpose. Here you say new gem, and we're gonna do the easiest one ever, a Q&A bot. All I'm going to say inside of these instructions, which is essentially the same thing like sending a first prompt in a new chat. And I'm going to say answer questions based on the knowledge from the attached document. That's it. And then when you scroll down here under knowledge, you click plus, and this is where we'll be linking up our Google Doc. Now to do that, we first need to create a Google Doc, but maybe you already have one in your organization, team, or whatever you're working on. I'll just create a doc. At the top, I'll write Q&A document. And then here, this is the simplest thing you can do with AI. You just have different question and answer pairs. So I'm just going to do a question. How much is the fish? I don't know why that came to mind, a quick scooter reference from back in the day. And then here, I'm just gonna pick some number. I'm gonna say $15.20. I'll just make sure to also name the doc Q&A document. Beautiful. And now back inside of the Gem Builder, I'll just say add from Drive and I'll select the Q&A document. And it's as simple as that. I'll just save this thing. And now whenever in the future I or somebody else using this little gem talks to it, it will have all of the knowledge from the Google document. Let me show you. How much is the fish? Do nothing else. $15.20. Now here's the cool thing. There were versions of this available before in other apps, but it never worked as well and as reliably as does this. Because I can go in here and add other questions. Let's say I'm using this for customer purpose and not just a demo. So there might be a question like, how do I change my billing details? Navigate to settings. Slash billing, and then it's the second section. Now literally in real time, I'll just tap back over. I didn't do anything. I didn't save, refresh. How do I change the billing details? I'll hit enter and you'll see the AI having access to this information and even formatting it in a better way than I did in the Google Doc. That's really the feature. And this is powerful because people are using Google Docs already. It's already one of the most popular, if not the most popular way to collaborate on information. You can share this document with your entire team and the gem will be updating updated in real time as information gets added. How amazing is that? Up until now, I had to delete a file, re-upload a file, or the connectors that we had were not reliable. This just works. To round it out, I just want to bring up some examples of what else you could use this for. You could give the gem information on a contract that is being written. You can plug it in a report that gets updated regularly by the team or any other document that you already work with within your Google Docs. It's super powerful, available on all plans today. And that's what I wanted to share here with you today. I hope that helps, and if you enjoy content like this, subscribe to the channel, cuz we do this regularly. See you soon.
