It stands to reason, if you are focused on how do I help people solve their own problems, you also, in a sense, are putting yourself out of the business of being the consulting advisor who helps people quickly find solutions to the problems. So is that your desire?
It actually is part of my desire. We both travel a lot. I mean, we're on the road all the time for what we do. And so I wanted to be able to provide something that would be of the greatest amount of value to the most number of people so that, yeah, they can do these things. I don't want to be the bottleneck. I don't want to be the person they have to turn to all the time. I would love to be able to take what I do, bottle it up in a way, and give it to people so that they can do it. Now, that doesn't put me out of business. It puts me in a different business, which is one of the lenses, the real business lens is all about. How do you make sure you're in the right business? And maybe I'm not in the speaking business, and maybe I'm not in the consulting business. Maybe I'm not in the training and workshop business. Maybe I'm in some other kind of business. And one of the things which I strongly believe is that people who, who are in the intellectual property space, which is what we have, we have content, we deliver that content in a variety of different ways. And I've always felt there were three different ways to deliver content. Okay, the first way is tell me, tell me what to do. It's a book, it's a workshop, it's a training class, dvd, cvd, whatever, right? So you tell me, and that's what a lot of us do, is we share our knowledge, and then it's up to the reader or the participant to convert that into something specific to their needs. At the highest level is they do it for me, which is the traditional consulting model. I don't want to have to learn about it, I don't want to have to know about it. I've got problems that I want to solve. You go solve them for me. But there's a sweet spot in the middle that I think is so powerful, which I call the enable me. And the enable me means I don't tell you what to do, I don't do it for you, but I give you the tools so that you are able to very quickly do it on your own without a lot of learning, without a lot of transformation having to happen on your side. It just happens as part of the process. So that's why the book has tools that support it. Those tools enable people to actually do their own problem solving without needing me, but without needing to learn a whole complicated process because it helps you through the process.
