When you decided to write this book, how did you answer the question, what problem am I really solving with this book? You know, it's interesting because that was sort of the meta question. And what I realized is the problem that I solve is I help people solve their own problems. People bring me in because I can look at a business and be able to figure out what is the best path for them to take. That's why people would want to work with any consultant is they can see things that someone else can't. They can actually shine a light on blind spots. Outsiders can see things that insiders can't. So one of the things which I developed a number of years ago was this tool, these lenses, to help companies be able to do that for themselves. It's almost like having a flashlight that you can shine on your blind spots so that you don't need an outside perspective. By using this mental kaleidoscope, you can actually find the solutions internally with your team. And the cool part about it is then it moves away from a bottleneck of problem solving, whether it's an innovation team or a consultant, to now everybody's able to participate. It becomes a huge cultural shift for the organization when you get everyone focused on asking better questions in a very specific way that yields very, very high value solutions.
