When you've been so excited about the opportunity to build a house and you then see it slipping away, it tests you as a person.
We wanted to build an energy-efficient home. We were really interested in being as environmentally conscientious as we could afford. My ultimate goal was to build a house and just try and find that We wanted this to be a family home and for us all to just enjoy being here.
The scariest thing about any project you take on is if you're going to commit to someone, you will need to rely on that person.
We bought the land. By then we had engaged a builder. There were a lot of concerns for us because there was not great communication. I think the prices had escalated so much that he was having concerns. Which resulted in him canceling the contract, which was heartbreaking for us because we were then left with debt, no house, and no clear way of moving forward.
After that whole experience, we needed a knight in shining armor to come along and say, I'm going to fix this for you.
We contacted Enduro and invited them to come and have a look at the block and the state that we were in. We were going to give up if they couldn't help us. The fact that they were game was just really huge for us. And then we met Ben and he was just so easy to work with. He'd run through all the things that were going on, meaning they would show us what had been done so far, and I couldn't believe how fast it was going up.
It was a journey that we felt part of all the way through.
The thing with Enduro was that there was such a clean and clear timeline of, well, this is how we work, this is our process. We'd have meetings in their office, and as we talked about things, they would make changes, and they would show it up on the screen, and they'd ask us what we thought. And they really wanted to hear what we thought, what we wanted. If we weren't sure about something, or if we had questions, he was so happy to answer them. It felt like we were co-
building the house. That was the experience I wanted to have right from the beginning. When we moved in and we were standing in this space, it was genuinely that feeling you had to pinch yourself to go, is this actually real? We value this house as more than just a house. I think this is a real statement of our relationship, a statement of our lives and what we decided to do when we moved here.
I'm so glad that we actually get to now live in it. It's just been such a positive experience with them. I couldn't, couldn't be happier.
