How to Make Ghoulish Gummy Worms | Kids Can Cook

Siya and a host make gummy worms using silicone molds, fruit juice from Trader Joe's, gelatin, and vitamin C powder with stevia. They heat the mixture for 60 seconds, fill the molds with a droplet dispenser, and chill for 20 minutes.

It's the Halloween special.
Kate can't cook. Oh, mama! Your hair looks fine.
Does?
Yeah.
Are you sure? Today we're gonna make ghoulish gummy worms! To do this, you really need molds. So we have these worm-shaped molds, and these really make it so easy. There is a way to do it with straws, but it's kind of wasteful, and these are just so much easier, and I promise you, you're gonna use them a lot more often. You're also going to need some gelatin. You do need some kind of sweetener. We use 100% juices, but they— while they are sweet, they're just— sometimes you need a little extra sweetness. So we sometimes use a little stevia drops or powder. Today we're going to add some vitamin C. This is from Innate Response Formulas. This formula already has stevia in it, so you don't have to add any sweetener if you're using this. Okay, so shall we start?
It's 15th, but what are the rules basically?
Okay, so we have some green juice. We just got this at a local market, Trader Joe's. This one is already green, so you can use this. We also have red. You can really just make the worms whatever color you want, but we think—
Yeah, you can get all types of juices like that at stores. Well, I prefer really cherry or blueberry.
Yeah, cherry, and it's really good. But you look for 100% juices, real juices, not concentrates. And what we need to do is let's make the green ones first. Is you want to do— Let's put them in the—
the green ones, let's put them in the blue.
You want 1 cup. Okay, and then can you add 2 scoops of that?
Sure.
That's 2 scoops of the gelatin.
How do we open this dough?
Oh, it's big, I know. There you go.
Thanks.
There we go. Okay, and you remember how to level the scoops? Do you see it?
Yeah.
Yeah, yep, perfect. Go ahead and drop that in there and do one more. Basically, it's 2 scoops to every cup of juice, so we're just making 1 cup of juice Right now of the green, and then we'll also do 1 cup of the red, so just to split up the colors. Okay, and then we're going to add some of this. This is that vitamin C powder I was talking about. This is nice to add when, you know, during the winter when kids are getting those, you know, snotty noses. This is nice, nice immune booster. And then what we're going to do is we need to just put this on the stovetop for really like maybe a minute, 60 seconds, not very long. It's just, you're just looking for the powder to kind of disintegrate or, or incorporate into the juice. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. Who are you dressed as?
Tiana. She is super brave. Daddy told me a few minutes ago because I thought she was not brave at all. She's like expecting like, oh hey, she's not brave at all. She's kind of brave, but now she's really strong and bold, and also she's really brave. This is her. This is what she looks like.
One thing to know about these worm molds is that they're kind of hard to get the juice in there, so the mixture in there. So they supply these little droplets, and they're actually very helpful. So I'm gonna have Siya do that to show you how easy it can be. Okay, we are done with this, let me go ahead and do this. Okay, oh, that is hot, here you don't have to lift it up, or you want it over closer to you?
Yeah.
Okay. Now you will notice I have a tray, like a cooking tray for the molds, is that because they are flexible? So you need something sturdy to be able to put it in your refrigerator. Spatulas here in case you do get some drops on the mold, you can just kind of move them into the cavities. We've got our molds all filled up. Now inevitably you're usually going to have some extra sometimes, so what you can do is just use a little pan or even a little soufflé dish and just pour it right into the pan. And they really only need about 20 minutes to solidify. Alright, so we put them in. The fun thing about these worms, anytime you put any gummies in a shape, kids are going to love them, but they particularly love worms.
So friends, so this is our goodbye. We have to say goodbye. Goodbye. I don't want to say goodbye. Goodbye.
