Hi, this is Kids Can Cook. Welcome to Kids Can Cook.
Uh, are you doing this without me?
Duh.
Okay, what are we making today?
We're making chocolate chips, gluten-free chocolate chips cookies.
That's right, we're gonna do 2 types of cookies though. We have Here, some regular chocolate chips, but they're kind of shaped a little funny. They're like chocolate chunks.
Like—
Oh, that's a weird one. And then we have— Can we eat it? Yeah, you should probably try that one. And then we have these white chocolate chips because we're gonna do chocolate chip, just plain chocolate chip, regular ones. And then we're also gonna do white chocolate chip with, um, do you know what nut this is? Macadamia nut. Good. Okay, and we're going to show you how easy it is because we're going to do it all in the food processor. Okay, so I've already, um, by the way, this is a recipe from the Naked Foods Cookbook. If you don't have it, you should get it. It's a good one, right?
It's a really good one because it has a lot of quick recipes that you can really make, and they're all gluten-free.
Yeah, so, um, What we have here is we have some almond meal and we have this sorghum flour. I'm just showing you the bag so you know what it is. It says sweet white sorghum flour. So it's equal parts of both. We're doing 2 times the recipe since we're doing, um, a bunch of cookies. And so I have, uh, this already portioned out, and this is the almond meal and this sorghum flour. And then I also put some baking powder in. So all this butter—
Baking powder.
Goes in, because like I said, we're doing 2 times the recipe. So this whole thing goes in.
Woo-hoo!
That's a lot of butter.
Okay.
Okay, and then hold on, we're not, we're not ready for that just yet. And then we gotta pour in the sugar. You can use coconut sugar. I use a mix of coconut sugar and, um, and maple syrup. And then we gotta pour in some maple syrup as well. And the maple syrup, it's not too much. It's about—
Well, that's a lot.
Half a cup.
That's a lot though.
Well, we're doing 2 times the recipe.
Oh yeah, yeah, well, I never seen that much come out.
Okay, go ahead, pour all that in.
Oh, that's a lot of maple syrup.
Okay, and now we're gonna put the lid on. Just put that off the side. We're going to put the lid on.
Ah, so good.
Okay, and turn it on. Keep going. Yeah, you can pulse it, that always helps. You want to see all the butter and the sugar and the maple syrup, you want to see all that mixed very well. And by the way, the butter I left at room temperature. And then we're also going to add some eggs to this, and you got to make sure there's no shells, right?
Wait, I want you to do it.
Okay, I'll do this part. So no shells.
Okay.
And then we can put this right there.
It broke.
Is this one already broke?
No.
All right, so usually the one the recipe calls for is 1 egg, but we're doubling it, right? Okay, then let's put this back on. We can actually add— why don't we go ahead and add the vanilla extract as well? Because it's 2 times, we're doing one of these. So do you want to pour it?
I know how much it goes all the way up there.
Yeah, exactly. She's really good with measuring spoons. All the way up, keep going higher, higher. Yep.
Okay.
Can I lick it? Um, you know what, vanilla extract is not very sweet. Do you actually like the taste of it? Try it, you'll see.
Well, it smells good.
It smells good, but it doesn't necessarily taste that great on its own. Yeah, okay, go ahead and pulse that. Keep going. And that's mixing. And then we're gonna add our flour. Keep going a little longer, please. And we also have some salt to add. We're gonna add, uh, we can even add it right here. Let that go. Looking pretty good. So easy, you guys. So easy and so fun, right? Because cookies are pretty good. Okay, that's looking nice and mixed.
Really good. That's what I'm thinking of.
Now let's add this flour.
Can I add it? I actually got it. Get all the flour.
And that also has the baking powder in it. Good. All right, and let's go ahead and put this back on there. All right, mix that up.
You can even put it in this little bowl because for little things like the chocolate chips. Those are good for those walnuts or those other chocolate chips. Blah! That was a good dad!
Mix it all up. Doesn't get any easier than this.
No way, Jose! You know—
What?
The book is really good because it has a lot of recipes.
Yeah. We make a lot from it. We use this book a lot.
Because it's really good, just telling ya.
Yeah.
The food is really good, but, but gluten is actually not good for you.
Oh yeah, for some people, right?
Not for us, but basically not for us.
Not for us. Okay, so now we have this. We're gonna put this in a bowl mostly because we're gonna add— but we're only gonna add half of it because we're doing—
Yeah, you know.
We're gonna split the recipe, right? Because we're gonna do some regular chocolate chips and And some with the other, the white.
I wanna do this one first.
I think this— does that look like it's about half?
Yeah, that looks good. And now, Daddy, that's a half.
Yeah, that's a pretty good half, right? Okay, so we'll put this back here for right now.
Can I put both of these in?
'Cause you know, it's chocolate chips, so you don't have to have 2 separate bowls. It doesn't matter.
Can I try some of it?
Okay, uh, here we go. So you're gonna add— usually it's about half a cup per recipe. So I think you can add all those, and let me get the scoop.
That's actually really good. Okay, all done.
Then what we do is we use a scoop just so that they're all the same size, and we go ahead and put that on there. And you don't have to push it down or anything like that. I'm going to show you a trick.
But when we do it, when we put them in the oven, Actually, the heat pushes them down so we can have them bigger.
That's right, it makes it— flattens them, doesn't it?
Mm-hmm. This actually looks really good. I wish I could eat that.
Okay, we have all our cookies on the tray. Now here's one thing, if you're worried about the cookies getting too flat, you can always stick them in the refrigerator first, and that will slow it down. But another trick with gluten-free cookies is that if they're not getting flat enough, what you do is you pull them out of the oven about halfway and you just kind of— what you do, let me see this, is you put your towel down and you just whack them. You just whack them like that. And when they're partially cooked, they'll flatten even more because sometimes gluten-free cookies don't get very flat.
It's already flat.
Like that. So this will go flatter once, once they start cooking.
It's already flat.
Yeah, they'll go flat. Okay, I'm sticking these in, and now let's go ahead and add the other bunch. Now we still have a little bit of dough with, with, uh, the dark chocolate chips.
Yikes, that looks so bad.
Well, you know, we should probably put those— let's go ahead and just add this to its own bowl.
Hmm, can I pour that chocolate? Excuse me. No.
Did you just burp?
I just peaker. Oh no, the people are gonna hear my burp.
Okay, so I'm getting all this off.
People are gonna hear my burp.
Yeah, everyone's gonna hear your burp. Everyone just heard your burp.
Okay. Because I drank too much water.
And add the white chocolate chips to this. Go ahead and add.
If you move this.
Here. And then we also have the macadamia nuts.
What are we gonna use those for?
We're gonna add them all.
What?
Okay, now we just gotta mix it up.
I wanna have one.
You have to what?
I want to have one.
You want to have one? I want to have one.
I want to have one. I want to have one.
Oh, these are gonna taste good.
Ahhh!
See, that just kind of flattens them a little bit more. Oh, these are going to be really good. Okay, perfect. Okay everyone, we have our second batch of cookies out. Here they are, this is still a little hot, we have been letting them cool for a moment. You just want to make sure you use a good spatula to get them clearly off, cleanly off I should And Sia, why don't you go ahead and give a taste and tell us how they are? We should just call these giggle cookies.
They are.
What do they taste like?
It tastes like chocolate cookies. But believe me, they are so good.
That's it for our show. Hope you have a great day.
Thank you for watching Kids Can Cook. Goodbye.
