James Barry investigates how beef labeled American might be mixed with imported lean meat and repackaged to hide its origin. The industry uses misleading "grass-fed" and "grass-finished" labels while blending foreign and domestic cuts to deceive consumers about what they're buying.
There can be upwards of 100,000 animals' DNA in one package of meat.
Is there something that is being done to cattle or to the meat that's just not being talked about?
One of the games that's being played when they butcher an animal, you get down to slices of meat that's got a lot of fat in it, and then they'll import these animals which are typically very lean. They take those lean animals and then they mix them with this fat. As long as they break the cryobag, if they repackage it, it can be claimed a product of America. Big corporations, they're not focused on your health, they're focused on making money and then lobbying our government to allow them to continue participating in really shady practices. They've tested all the meat that's in these mainline grocery stores that makes the claims of grass-fed, grass-finished beef, and it's all a lie.
