How much time do you invest in your brain? Well, look, our brain dictates so many things. It's our largest asset. We've got to look after it, right? But often we're putting things on our skin and we're doing all these other things that care for our bodies, but our brain dictates so much. I came across a product a while ago called Flow State and it's made such a difference. And look, they offer functional mushrooms that sharpen cognition, they really boost energy and definitely strengthen immunity. And they actually use one of their key ingredients is lion's mane. Right? So Lion's mane is popular among really peak performing athletes and those wanting an edge. It's known as the brain mushroom and it's currently being studied extensively for its nerve growth factor potential as a means to ease the symptoms of Alzheimer's and for treating inflammation in the body. The thing I love about these products, they don't taste like mushrooms. You can mix them in with your tea, they're a great replacement for coffee. But I actually love the PM mushroom blend, the evening one. It really helps me sleep and to know that my brain is getting extra nutrients is just next level. The one thing that's really important for me is hey, what' in there? So they have tested heavily at Hill Laboratories for heavy metals, pesticide residue, microbials, and also at Massey University for active compounds. So I urge you, if you love your brain and you want to go the extra mile to nurture it, head on over to Flowstate NZ and you can use the coupon code LEADONPURPOSE to get 15% off.
Welcome back to Lead On Purpose. Today I'm going to take just a moment to do a bit of a recap on our last episode with the amazing Ali Adams. She's the chief executive of Christchurch NZ and she's one of the guests at my High Performance Leadership program back in October last year, along with Sir Steve Hanson and Sir John Key, our former Prime Minister. So a few of the key takeaways and I'd love for you to think, where could this apply in my life or in my business? But Ali shared so much gold. Her humor was contagious. The audience, the live audience came up afterwards in the days that came after that to say how much they enjoyed, how much they took away. So if you have a little bit of time up your sleeve, please go and listen also to the full episode, which is our previous episode. So a couple of key takeaways. Learn to trust your instincts as a leader. This was a theme that kept coming up actually across that three day program. A lot of the great leaders talked about instincts and gut and listening to it. So do you listen to your gut? When was the last time you didn't listen to your gut and you regret it? Just take a moment and reflect on that. When was that moment? Because we've all had them. I had one a few years back and it was an individual who wanted to work with me directly. I was going to be the coach and they had a business and they wanted executive coaching and support. And something inside me was like, I don't know, something feels a wee bit off with this individual. I thought, no, let's keep moving, let's do it. Yep, let's proceed. And maybe nine or 12 months down the line, something happened at an event I was running and this individual did something really just didn't sit well with me. It was a two day event and he'd went out and did some pretty unsavory things and there was videos taken and it was shared amongst a few others. And it got back to me. I just thought, now that's, that's what my gut was telling me this. I don't, I don't want to work with people that have vastly different values. And so I didn't listen to my gut and I learned a lot from that. And you know, Ali just reinforces that it's so important that we learn to trust our instincts as leaders. Another big takeaway. Leadership is a huge word and responsibility and it is something that's uncomfortable at first the big shift as a leader is when you lead leaders. How insightful is that? It's one thing to lead followers, but it's another thing to lead leaders. And that truly is the next level. You're thinking in a different way. You're challenging them in a different way. There's a different level of understanding. It's really an incredible challenge. But what a great privilege when you get to lead leaders. But before you lead leaders, you got to lead yourself. And we can't lead others if we don't lead ourselves. And that's physically, socially, spiritually, mentally, academically.
What are you doing to lead yourself? What does your personal growth plan look like? Do you have a personal growth plan? Leaders have personal growth plans. If you don't have one, let's get excited. Get a piece of paper if you're driving. Please don't do that right now, but get a piece of paper out and write down, what's my personal growth plan for 2023? And have one and get excited about it. Ali said growth as a leader is very important. Personal development is the key. You cannot be a good leader if you don't know yourself. That's from Ali herself, like, so powerful. I truly align with that thinking. You cannot be a good leader if you don't know yourself and you don't know yourself unless you go inwards and reflect and evaluate. As I'll say many more times, self evaluation is the seed of self mastery. How often do you self evaluate by getting pen to paper and asking yourself reflective questions? It's so key that you do that.
And just one last one. There was just so many takeaways, but I can't share them all. It's just a short recap. The last one I want to want to share with you is you are your habits. You can't get away from your habits. Your habits dictate your life. So what are your habits right now? What are you doing to refine them? I'd love to know. And I just want to wish you nothing but the best. As the year starts off, there's so many exciting opportunities out there for you. This planet, this community, you know, your family, your people, they need you. They need you to be the leader. They need you to show the way and lead the way. And the best times to do that are the tough times, times when we're being thrown ambushes. That's when true leaders are born. So I just want to encourage you to get out there and lead your life on purpose.
