How much time do you invest in your brain? Well, look, our brain dictates so many things. It's our largest asset. We've got to look after it, right? But often we're putting things on our skin and we're doing all these other things that care for our bodies, but our brain dictates so much. I came across a product a while ago called Flow State and it's made such a difference. And look, they offer functional mushrooms that sharpen cognition, they really boost energy and definitely strengthen immunity. And they actually use one of their key ingredients is lion's mane. Right? So Lion's mane is popular among really peak performing athletes and those wanting an edge. It's known as the brain mushroom and it's currently being studied extensively for its nerve growth factor potential as a means to ease the symptoms of Alzheimer's and for treating inflammation in the body. The thing I love about these products, they don't taste like mushrooms. You can mix them in with your tea, they're a great replacement for coffee. But I actually love the PM mushroom blend, the evening one. It really helps me sleep and to know that my brain is getting extra nutrients and is just next level. The one thing that's really important for me is, hey, what's in there? So they have tested heavily at Hill Laboratories for heavy metals, pesticide residue, microbials, and also at Massey University for active compounds. So I urge you, if you love your brain and you want to go the extra mile to nurture it, head on over to Flowstate NZ and you can use the coupon code LEADONPURPOSE to get 15% off.
Resilience Expert Deborah Gilboa, aka Dr. G, works with families, organizations and businesses to identify the mindset and strategies to turn stress into an advantage. Renowned for her contagious humor, Dr. G works with groups across multiple generations to rewire their attitudes and beliefs to create resilience through personal accountability and a completely different approach to adversity. She is a leading media personality seen regularly on Today, Good Morning America, and the Doctors. She's also featured frequently in the Washington Post, the New York Times, Authority magazine, and countless other print outlets. I wanted to share some key takeaways from our episode, our full length episode with Dr. G. If you haven't had a chance to listen to it, I think you'll love it. But here are some of those key takeaways that you can apply to your life. First, one we need leaders for change. We only need leaders when we are preparing for changes, dealing with or recovering from change, which is only all the time. The problem with change is that it is both the only way to get what we want and something that our brains are wired to resist. Our brains resist change because their number one function is to keep us alive. Regardless of whether you're making a good, bad or even neutral change, your brain will suss out whether you might lose something if what is happening is trustworthy and whether this change will bring on discomfort. This is literally a chemical response in the brain and not something that we're even aware that's happening. To help turn down the amygdala from a 10 to a 5, simply ask yourself, what choices do I have? And the next time something comes up in your life where you feel stressed way outside your comfort zone, try that. What choices do I have? When you ask that, it gets you to go into a possibilitarian mindset, right? You start to think, what are the possibilities here for me, for the people around me, for my team, my organization? The second takeaway is this. Resilience is the ability to navigate change with intention. When I think about this lead on purpose, to me, on purpose means with intentionality. So to lead intentionally. So what Dr. G was saying is resilience is the ability to navigate change with purpose, with that intention. So you're going through change. Life is constantly changing. We change chemically, biologically. We change our minds, our relationships change and evolve. The politicians around us change. Sometimes that's a great thing. But there's constant change. And resilience is the ability for you and your team or Your organization to navigate that with intention. Next big takeaway. As a leader, it's important to know that your team's needs are really important. And to me, they're at the forefront of what your organization should be about. You need to meet those needs and help guide people to meet those needs. Sometimes they don't even know what their needs are. So sometimes you're uncovering that and helping them discover what are their needs. And how can we, as an organization or as a family, help you meet those needs? And some of you may be familiar with Maslow, but also the human needs psychology. It's very similar, based on a similar framework. First, need that we've got to meet if is the need for certainty. Once we've got enough of that, we need a bit of variety. Because too much certainty, we get bored. Once we've got this variety, we also have a need for love and connection, to feel loved, to feel that we're connected with other humans. The next need is significance, knowing that what we do is significant to the people around us. Once we've got to those four needs, we get into the spiritual needs, which is the need for growth and the need for contribution. And I'll do another show and go deep on those six human needs and how we meet them and how we discover which ones drive us the most. Because once you understand what needs are driving you, maybe what needs are unmet, you can really start to gain a bit more control of your life and define for yourself what fulfillment looks and feels like. Understanding your needs, first and foremost, so important. Another big takeaway. Resilience is not a fixed trait. It's a growth commodity. The good news is that you can intentionally affect your resilience for the better. But the bad news is that the world can affect your resilience for the worst. Look for resilience in, say, you have a team in your new hires or your new members. Look for resilience in them. Look for people who can navigate change. Remember to invest in resilience building for them. And when they show less resilience, remember to look around and see what might be causing this. But resilience is something we must build. It can atrophy, but also it can build and grow. So my challenge to you is to assess what your level of resilience is right now in the areas of change in your life. Something's changing right now. Just think for a moment. What area of your life or business is going through some form of change, small, medium, or large? And how are you coping with that? What are you learning in the process? How are you responding in the moment? And go back to that very first takeaway. Ask yourself, what choices do I have? Some of those choices might include your response. They might include your perception of the situation. I might include what resources you have around you.
What choices do I have? Ask that question. Look, for now, I want you to take in some of those great little takeaways. Share it with someone that might benefit from, and if you get a chance, go back and listen to the full episode. Dr. G was incredible. We have another amazing guest coming up this week, Saturday morning here in New Zealand. First thing, 6am, it'll go live, so I hope you enjoy it. But for now, get out there and lead your life on purpose.
