19 Feb 2022 · 6 min
James Laughlin pulls three ideas from his interview with Jonathan De Potter: you're the only obstacle to yourself, you attract who you are not who you want, and spiritual mentors and plant medicine shift your frequency. De Potter's thinking echoes Think and Grow Rich.

Leaders A massive welcome back to the Lead On Purpose podcast. It's that time when I drop the key leadership highlights from our previous full length episode which was with Jonathan Depotter. Jo Jonathan is an expert in plant medicine experiences for leaders. I want to share with you the three key takeaways. So grab a pen and paper and implement these into your own leadership in your own life. And hey, please don't forget to leave me a rating and review on Apple podcast. So first key takeaway. You are the only thing in your own way. Really listen to that. You are the only obstacle between you and whatever you desire. Whether that's to grow a team, whether that's to have a really happy family, whether that's to reach a financial goal or maybe it's a health goal. You are the only thing in your own way. So sometimes we see these external obstacles, but actually the thing that helps us overcome those extra external obstacles is internal resourcefulness. Often we look around us for resources, money, contacts, networks, opportunities. But actually it's resourcefulness that's way more important. It's how you think about the situation and that will help you to reframe it, change your perspective, and then help you to take alternative action. So you're the only thing in your own way. I want you to think about something maybe right now in your life where you're trying to get to this outcome, but you're struggling. You're really struggling to get there. You're not meeting that deadline. The goal seems like it's so far out, seems impossible. What is that thing? Write it down and then ask yourself, what could I do to change this? If I was to be incredibly resourceful, what might my solutions be? Try that now. Look, the second key takeaway from our sit down with Jonathan Depotter was we attract what we are, not what we want. How interesting. We attract what we are, not what we want. So when you're thinking, let's take a financial one, that's the one that a lot of people can Relate to whether, you know, coming from an individual standpoint or from a business standpoint. If you're wanting that big milestone, a million dollars, a $10 million, whatever it might be, if you're focused on wanting that, you're going to probably not attract that. Why don't you think like you've already achieved that outcome? A great book, if you haven't read it, is Think and Grow Rich. It's one of those classics, right? And for me personally, I started reading it and I got about a third of the way down, down through the book and then I set it down. About six months later I came back and started again, got about quarter of the way through and set it down. It took me like four or five times over a course of a couple of years to actually read the entire book. And I can tell you this, it was transformational. And this takeaway, you know, we attract what we are, not what we want, really resonates with the whole idea of that book. It's about thinking about what you're working towards and then acting, thinking and behaving like you've already got it. You know, if you think of your leadership, try and be the leader who you wish you had around you. Don't go searching for that leader. Be that leader that you know you want to become and act as if you're already there. Consider that it's done. The third and final takeaway, and it was a huge feature length podcast. If you haven't listened to it, please go back all on plant medicine and how we can use that to really level up as leaders and to develop a higher consciousness. So it's not something I've personally done, but. But I do know a number of leaders who have and have had profound experiences not only for themselves, but for their businesses and their families. So the third takeaway, find a great spiritual leader. Your lower frequency will always harmonize up to their higher frequency. So let's take something like meditation. You know, it's quite a common thing. Lots of people are doing it nowadays. If you want to have great meditation and you want to benefit from that meditation, if important to find the best meditator, someone who's achieved that higher consciousness, someone who's really enlightened, who's made it their life's work, not someone who's studied it for a year and put up a YouTube video, really go deep. Someone who I really admire is Joe Dispenza. If you haven't looked up Dr. Joe Dispenza, please go look him up. I would say one of the leading gurus in quantum physics, epigenetics, meditation, healing. Absolutely brilliant. So please do take a chance to go and check out his work. But that saying that I took from the conversation with Jonathan, that, you know, your lower frequency always harmonizes up to the higher frequency. And that's a physics law, right? So get around people who are on that higher frequency, and naturally what you'll start doing is harmonizing up to that. So good. Look, I hope you enjoyed the recap. If you get a chance to go and take in the full episode, I know you're going to love it. But for now, get out there and lead life on purpose. And if you don't mind, please share this with a friend.
