Marc Allen Recap: Unleash Your Inner Genius
3 Mar 2022 · 0 min
A short podcast recap by James Laughlin (Lead On Purpose) summarizing three leadership takeaways from a full interview with Mark (Marc) Allen, a best-selling author and publisher. Key points: (1) the subconscious accepts what you tell it (metaphor: a powerful five-year-old) and can be reprogrammed; (2) reframe "problems" as "situations" (quote attributed to Eckhart Tolle) and create quiet "think time" to ask and listen for solutions; (3) two paths to success — dare to dream big and then deal with the doubts/fears that follow (fear of failure and fear of letting others down). The episode also includes a brief promo for a 2026 goal-setting workshop and references Mark Allen's life shift around age 30 and New World Library as his publishing company.

Welcome back to the Lead On Purpose podcast. It's that time when I drop the key Leadership Highlights from our previous full length Episode Our previous episode was with Mark Allen. Mark is a best selling author on mindset and spirituality. He also founded and is the owner of New World Library, one of the largest publishing firms in the world. They publish works from Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and many other greats. But there were so many amazing takeaways. So please do go back and listen to the full length episode. But I'm going to share with you three of the key takeaways. So grab a pen and paper, see if you can implement these into your own life and your own leadership. And don't forget please to leave me a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. It allows me to reach and impact more amazing leaders. And if you can, hit that copy link with the show link and share it with a friend. Share it with another leader, another person you love. Now number one, first key takeaway. Your subconscious mind is like an incredibly powerful five year old. It will believe whatever you tell it. That was directly from Mark's mouth. Now that's powerful for me because I have a five year old son, Finn, and I know just how true it is that whatever I tell him, he believes. So I have to be very intentional and thoughtful around what I tell Finn. And we can help shape our children's beliefs by feeding them amazing insights by being honest and giving them facts and helping them to aspire to be the best they can be. Now that's equally true for ourselves. Our subconscious mind is literally sitting there listening for commands. So whether you're talking internally or you're verbally talking externally, your subconscious mind is listening to that. So when we realize that we can program it. That is a game changer. So that negative oh I'm not enough. Oh I'm big boned. Oh I don't have enough time. Of course your subconscious mind hears that and goes, cool. I believe all those things. But on the other side. If you go, hey, I am time affluent, I am very resourceful, I am committed to being my healthiest self. Your subconscious mind wakes up and listens to that as well. Number two, there's no problems, just situations. Now those words didn't come from Mark. Mark shared them with me on the show, but they came from his good friend Eckhart Tolle. Now listen to that again. There's no problems, just situations. That is a mindset shift. So if you went into a disaster of a situation, you could look at it as a major problem or an opportunity. So when you're at home and something's going on in your personal life or with your family, you can go, this is a big problem. Or you can say, hey, this is an interesting situation. How might I approach this In a resourceful way, in a positive way, with a possibilitarian mindset. So Mark suggested, and he uses this himself often. Ask yourself a question when you see this situation, this challenging problem. If you want, ask yourself a question that will help you to solve it. And then just listen. Ask the question and then listen. It's going to require pause, it's going to require thought, it might even require journaling. But do you ever find that your high pace, your high frequency is continual, your thoughts are non stop, you're running from one commitment to the next. And then when there is a pause, you come up with something else that needs your attention. I urge you to just create some space. What gets scheduled gets done right. Create think time once a day. Have some think time, even if it's five minutes. If you can get 45 minutes of think time a day, you're onto something special. But actually carve out time when you sit down and think in a quiet space. And if you can't find a quiet space and you're in a big city or you know you've got lots of people around you, put some headphones on, noise canceling headphones, put some white noise on and just ask yourself the question that might help you solve the situation you have in front of you. Third takeaway was there are two ways to create success. The first way is dare to dream your ideal world. Dare to dream. So few of us dare to dream big because we're afraid we might fail. We're also afraid that if we tell the world about our dreams and we don't get there, that they might judge us, laugh at us. It's so interesting when you look at studies around physical pain versus public humiliation. Most humans, the vast majority of humans would rather experience physical pain inflicted on them than rather than public humiliation. So I urge you, dare to dream. Write your dreams down, share them with people you love and admire and go after them. And the second way to create success was deal with the doubts and fears that arise once you dare to dream. So once you start dreaming, your natural instinct is to let doubt creep in. Self doubt and those fears and the two biggest fears that humanity faces, you know, fear of letting others down and the fear of failure. But if you fail and you're aware that you failed, the next time, you're going to get closer to success, right? So dare to dream. Get out there and dare to dream. That was my, honestly, my biggest takeaway from sitting down and spending time with Mark was just dare to dream. And when you go back and listen to the full episode, it's powerful to listen about his life. And at 30 years old, on his 30th birthday, he had a transformational shift and he actually shares in there, his steps to making that big shift from being someone who was just meeting his obligations, just enough money each week to pay rent and he was able to turn that around, build a multimillion dollar company, be the largest publisher for this type of book in the world just by following some simple steps. So I would urge you to go back and listen to it and take in some of the golden gems. But if you don't have a chance, I hope these three key takeaways will really serve you well today. And I look forward to our next show which comes in a few days time. So look out for that. But right now I want you to get out there and lead your life on purpose.
Sam.
