How much time do you invest in your brain? Well, look, our brain dictates so many things. It's our largest asset. We've got to look after it, right? But often we're putting things on our skin and we're doing all these other things that care for our bodies, but our brain dictates so much. I came across a product a while ago called Flow State and it's made such a difference. And look, they offer functional mushrooms that sharpen cognition, they really boost energy and definitely strengthen immunity. And they actually use one of their key ingredients is lion's mane. Right? So Lion's mane is popular among really peak performing athletes and those wanting an edge. It's known as the brain mushroom and it's currently being studied extensively for its nerve growth factor potential as a means to ease the symptoms of Alzheimer's and for treating inflammation in the body. The thing I love about these products, they don't taste like mushrooms. You can mix them in with your tea, they're a great replacement for coffee. But I actually love the PM mushroom blend, the evening one. It really helps me sleep and to know that my brain is getting extra nutrients is just next level. The one thing that's really important for me is, hey, what's in there? So they have tested heavily at Hill Laboratories for heavy metals, pesticide residue, microbials, and also at Massey University for active compounds. So I urge you, if you love your brain and you want to go the extra mile to nurture it, head on over to Flowstate NZ and you can use the coupon code LEADONPURPOSE to get 15% off.
In our last episode we had the incredible US Navy officer Martin Groover. In the Navy, nothing is left to chance. And I want to share with you some of the key takeaways from that incredible interview with with Martin Groover. Every strategy is tested, Every resource is utilized. With minimal access and remarkable efficiency, the Navy streamlines convergence of people, processes and technology. And Marty is just incredible at sharing his insights that are valuable for leaders on the field and off the field. He has an award winning book called Speed of Advance. And I just want to share a couple of key takeaways. Please think where could you apply these to your life? What gets measured gets fixed. Just think about that. What gets measured gets fixed. When you're focused on things, trying to improve them, even incrementally, you can fix them. But when you're not measuring things and you're haphazard and you're just rocking along with life, well, you're not going to be able to fix things, improve things. And remember this, you are either growing or dying. It's one of the two. And if you don't like that word, dying, let's reframe it. With decaying, you're either growing or decaying. You're not flatlining. There's nothing like that in life. You're either getting better or worse. It's one of the two. So what gets measured gets fixed? My question to you right now, what are you measuring? And if you're not measuring much, what's the most important thing you could measure right now in your career and in your life? Marty says if you don't measure metrics in business, how will you know if you're successful? What does success look like? Oh, we just want to grow. Yeah, but by how much does growing by $1 in net revenue across a year mean that you're successful? I don't think so. Like, how are you going to measure it? You've got to be clear on your metrics, clear on your outcomes, and move towards those with conviction. Another big takeaway that Marty shared was you need to continuously reflect as a leader. And that's something I see with great leaders. They are always in a state of self evaluation. They're always asking great questions, always circling back to see, what am I doing well? What could have been better? What can I learn? And I want you to think about where in your life are you reflecting? Are you reflecting? Do you create intentional space to reflect? If you don't have think time scheduled on your calendar. And I mean, this is just time to think, to strategize, to dream, to get clear on your values and your outcomes. Then get on it. Please schedule that. Creating time to think is the most powerful thing you can do for your mindset, your skill set, your heart set and your income. If you want to grow things, whether it's businesses, mindset, people, revenue, being really clear with think, time is going to give you the space to evaluate, reflect, and then move forward with insights, move forward with more possibilities, make better decisions, and in the end have way better outcomes.
Martin also said, if you're not going up, you're going down. That was a key takeaway from that episode. And I reflect on that as if you're not growing, you're dying. So I want you to look at your life and your business and see where you're going up or where you're going down. You're doing one of two things.
You. He talked about losing the bubble, and this was a naval term, but I really related to it. And losing the bubble means you've lost your focus. And it's interesting. I work with a lot of individuals and groups and organizations, all high performers, but the one thing they keep bringing up is their inability to stay focused for any length of time. And it's a muscle. Being able to focus is a muscle. We must use it or we will lose it. It's so crucial that we use that muscle. We build it, we develop it, we nurture it. So what are you doing now to build your focus? Do you have one hour of deep work time? Just one hour of deep work every day? What's deep work? Deep work is where you're doing one thing with intention, with zero distractions. Phone's on flight mode, notifications on your computer are off, your office door is closed. In fact, your phone's nowhere near you unless you're making sales calls. And that's your one thing. Do you have deep work scheduled every single day? Deep work could be reading that book. Deep work could be studying that course. Deep work could be strategizing. Deep work could be self evaluating. Doesn't matter what it is. But do you have one hour a day where you're doing deep work? If you do, you're one of the few who do. And that will set you apart from the rest. It will set you apart from your competitors, set you apart from your peers. That's what makes the difference. It's having a space where you can really go deep. So look, there were so many other incredible takeaways from Martin Groover. His time in the Navy, he learned so much, and he applies it incredibly to business and life. So I urge you to go and listen to the full episode if you haven't had a chance. And I look forward to welcoming in the next guest, so stay tuned. But for now, please get out there and lead your life on purpose.
