28 Mar 2022 · 0 min
Patrick Mosher argues that leaders should focus on deeply affecting a small number of people: "If you can impact 10, you can impact a million." He also says wisdom only becomes real when shared, and that deciding means killing other options.

Leaders, welcome back to the Lead On Purpose podcast. It's that time when I drop the key leadership highlights from our previous full length episode. That episode was with the amazing Patrick Mosher. He had an almost 30 year consulting career at Accenture and he is the host of the Wisdom Council. You will want to go and check out that episode and hear about the Wisdom Council. Maybe that Wisdom Council is for you. Maybe it's exactly what you need. Now look, I want to share with you the top three takeaways. There were so many, but just the top three for me. And if there's something in here that really resonates with you, I would really encourage you and urge you. Try and implement it in your life or in your business. And hey, please do me a favor. If you're on Apple Podcasts, please leave me a rating and review. And no matter where you're listening to this, if you can hit subscribe so that each week you get a notification to say, hey, here's this Week's latest episode. First big takeaway. If you can impact 10, you can impact 10amillion. Patrick talked about an intimacy model for business and life compared to a mass model. So rather than building the biggest network in the world, it's building the deepest connected network. And when you have deep human connection with others, you're going to have a greater impact. So if you can impact 10, you can impact a million. Focus on the people in front of you. Second big takeaway. Wisdom isn't wisdom unless it's shared. So when you come across something profound, something powerful, make sure you share it. Reading a book, like I read a lot of Nelson Mandela, his books he's written, books have been written about him. But I make sure to share what I learn. So I'm going to urge you, if you're listening to the podcast and one thing comes up and you think, wow, I should share that with someone. I should share that with my team, my family, maybe a sibling, maybe a child, a partner, go and share something because wisdom isn't wisdom unless it's shared. And the third big takeaway was this. The true meaning of the word decide. Patrick put me on the spot in the podcast. He says, james, what words do you know that end in C, I, D, E? Cide started thinking, oh, homicide, genocide. And I said, patrick, these are not nice words. Is. Yeah, well, the word decide, C, I, D, E means to kill. The word decide means to kill all other options. And look, as a leader, you have to kill many other options on a daily basis. As a leader of a family, leader of a business, leader of a team, you have got to be eliminating decisions and making one decision to say, this is where we're going, and I'm killing off all other options. Decisions are such powerful elements, and you must craft decisions for your clients, your team, your family, and yourself. So when you make decisions, make them carefully. Make them thoughtfully. Have a good sounding board around you. Maybe a mentor, maybe a coach, someone who can really help you. If you need to help to make that decision make, make sure you think carefully about who you let in to counsel you. So, look, I want you to get out there and lead your life on purpose if you can. Please share this with a friend, this podcast. Go back and check out some of the other ones with former world leaders, top athletes, CEOs from top companies. I really appreciate you sharing the word. So, guys, take great care, and I look forward to seeing you in next week's episode. I've got a very special episode for you next week. I look forward to it.
Sam.
