We had the most incredible chat with Tai Montague in our recent episode and I just want to take a moment to give you some of the key takeaways and if you've listened to the whole episode, I hope you enjoyed it. But I just wanted to steal some of the gold. If you haven't had a chance to listen to it, that's fine as well. These insights will be powerful. Ty had so much to share and just a little bit about Ty. He's the CO founder and CPO of @CO Collective. It's a company that works alongside leadership teams to identify the company's purpose and values to help bring those to life. They've worked with some of those incredible organizations you could imagine some of those Fortune 500 companies. And really, Ty has got a unique perspective that I think you need to hear. First things first. When times get tough, that's when real leadership is demonstrated and it's doing the right thing, even when it's the hard thing to do. Ty says, you know what? Anyone can be a leader. I truly believe that leadership is knowing where you're headed, being congruent with your values, and inspiring and encouraging others to join you on the journey alongside you. It's not this hierarchical title where you bark orders down to people. That's not leadership. Maybe it was in the past. I would say it's maybe more archaic management than leadership. But leadership, to me, when I hear says inspire, I think of inspiration when I think of leadership. What do you think when you think of leadership? Look, Ty was pretty honest about political leaders and he said in America, where he's from, he truly believes that America is really lacking in true leadership at the moment. And he says he's always voted Democratic, but he thinks the Democrats have done a great job, but they haven't done close to what really needs to be done for America. And neither of the Republicans, he said both sides are continually fighting, trying their best to hold on to power rather than thinking about doing the right thing. Even when it's the hard thing. And that's the whole idea of putting people ahead of a power struggle. You see it in companies, you see it in teams, you see it in families. So it's about putting people ahead of power. Now, just for a moment, I should say sorry for my voice. You'll hear it's not its usual self today. Going through a little bit of a sore throat day, but still showing up to connect with you. Super excited to do that. And look, just a little reminder, we canceled all of our ads and promotions because I want to enhance your listenership experience. And you know what? We recently got a number two ranking on Apple podcast charts. It is my goal and I want to share it with you, to be accountable to you. It's my goal to be number one. I'm yet to reach a number one ranking and I really need your help. If you haven't already, please subscribe or follow the show. Please leave me a rating, a five star rating and just a short sentence of why you enjoy the show helps a lot. And secondly, the other thing I want you to do is just share the podcast with three friends that will enjoy it. That's all I've got to ask. And in return for that, it allows me to grow the show, continue to bring incredible guests on, and I just really appreciate your support. Now back to a few of these key takeaways. This is a big one. It's not important to be perfect. It's more important to be transparent. How important is that to think about right now? How often do we want to have all the answers? How often do we try to say, yep, I've got this, I know what it is, or if you don't know it, you're scrambling trying to figure it out. What Ty said, it's so much more important to be transparent. Hey, I know my title says I'm the leader or hey, I know I'm the parent of the family, but I don't have the answer to that. I don't know what to do in this situation. Let's work together to try and figure this out. Let's go and find people that can help us and serve us. So I want you to really think about that. Where do you try to be perfect? Where do you try to have all the answers? Where are you showing up with a mask saying, I've got this, just follow me. You know, we look back to Captain Scott who came down to try and be the first person to the South Pole. A lot of his leadership style was, I've got this. Let me look after you. Don't worry about it. But in the end, we all know that his team, his entire team, perished on the ice in Antarctica. You don't want your team to crumble or fail. And if they fail, that's okay. But crumbling and perishing, that's not okay. So being transparent, so much more empowering than being perfect. Here's a big one. This was the ultimate kind of takeaway for me. Be a story doer, not a storyteller. Wow. Now I'll just reframe and repeat that one. Be a story doer, not a storyteller. We can all tell stories, some of us better than others. But do you actually live out the story you're talking? Do you execute? Do you take action? Are you congruent? It's nice to paint this beautiful story of where you're headed in your career, where your company's headed or what your team's going to do. But are you doing the things, the behaviors, the actions day to day that are taking you towards it, or are you just telling yourself a story? Look, I hope those key insights really serve you. And I would urge you, if you haven't listened to the full episode, go back and listen to it. It was an absolute cracker of an episode. You'll enjoy it. And we've got a very exciting guest coming up this week. But for now, please get out there and lead your life on purpose. Thanks for tuning in today and investing in your own personal leadership. Please hit that subscribe button and I'd love if you'd leave me a rating and review. I've got some amazing guests lined up for you in the coming weeks and leaders.
