Jaz Moss explains the harmonic minor scale and how it differs from natural minor. The key difference: the seventh note is raised, so in A minor it's G# instead of G natural. Moss demonstrates both scales on an instrument.

This one accidental here, which is circled in blue, is the raised seventh. And this is the note that really separates the harmonic minor scale from the natural minor scale. So here you can see the natural minor scale has a minor seventh. So in the key of A minor we have a G. And the harmonic minor scale has a major seventh. So in the key of A minor we have a G sharp. So let me just play both of these scales. Let me start with the harmonic minor scale this time. So we have A, B, C, D, E, F, G sharp, A, and then the natural minor scale.

Hall & Oates: "just play the bassline as written..." / Me: "I can't go for that" 😏 #jazmoss #bass
