Episode 21 AI and the Purpose Pyramid: How to Design a Life You Love

In this solo episode of the Super Connections podcast, host Jennifer K. Hill introduces a four‑level "Purpose Pyramid" (inspired by Curtis Estes' book Your Life by Design and Maslow's hierarchy) as a practical framework for aligning daily tasks with personal purpose. She walks listeners through each rung of the pyramid, using personal anecdotes (trash, cleaning, Excel, driving, airport pickups, email) to illustrate low‑value tasks that sit at the bottom, and higher‑value activities (writing speeches, creating PowerPoints, podcasting, travel, parties, spiritual practice, time with husband) that sit at the top. Hill then demonstrates how AI tools—Fixer.ai for email triage, Gamma.app for rapid PowerPoint creation, ChatGPT/Gemini/Midjourney for image generation, and other generative assistants—can automate or outsource the lower‑rung tasks, freeing more time for the activities that bring joy. She offers a step‑by‑step exercise: list tasks across the pyramid, feed the top‑rung items into an AI model to receive career or life‑design suggestions, and use the insights for job negotiations or entrepreneurial direction. Throughout, she emphasizes a supportive, optimistic stance on using technology to design a life aligned with one's purpose.

Hello friends, and welcome back for episode 21 of Super Connections. I'm Jennifer K. Hill, and I love getting to play in this space of how we can super connect to ourself, others, and our purpose. In today's solo episode, I'm going to give you tips and tricks of how to utilize AI to help you find your soul's purpose. Now, some of you might be scratching your heads and saying, what, Jennifer, what are you talking about? What if in today's episode I could tell you one thing you could do today to help you get closer to your purpose? Would that be worth listening? All right, great. Then let's get started. Welcome to Super Connections. I am your host, Jennifer K. Hill, helping you with the Golden Triangle of Connection, where you will super connect to yourself, others, and your purpose. Join me each week as I will share from some of my favorite tips and tools for super connecting, and I'll bring in some of my favorite friends and thought leaders to help support you on your journey to super connecting to the life of your dreams. So first and foremost, let's talk about something a dear friend of mine years ago taught me, Curtis Estes. Curtis was somebody I knew from the legal field. He ran a successful financial services company out of Los Angeles, and back, gosh, probably 10 or 15 years, maybe even 20 years ago when we met, he had written his first book called Your Life by Design. And I'm going to share with you right now why this has stuck with me 10, 15, 20 years later and why I'm still quoting this book. We're now at a precipice At a new point in humanity and in society and a crosspoint in our own lives. Are you going to live your life afraid of AI, or are you going to use AI to help you live a more purposeful life? So Curtis S. Dez asked this question in his book. He asked, what if you could design your life? Here he was, a successful financial planner helping people Create their dream lives, whether it was having children, their dream vacation, buying their dream home. We all have hopes, wishes, dreams, and aspirations that we're striving for. So what if there was a formula that we could use to help us understand how we could be more effective? Now I know some of you like to listen to this on Spotify or iTunes or whatever your favorite place is to listen to podcasts, though this particular time I'm going to encourage you, if you want, to drop onto our YouTube channel at Jennifer K. Hill. Again, that's @JenniferKHill, where you'll be able to see visually what I'm doing, and then I'll also talk you through it. So essentially, in Curtis's book, he talks about this idea of a pyramid. We've— many of us have probably heard of this idea of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. So for those of you listening, I'm going to walk you through verbally what I'm going to show people on YouTube. So imagine that you have this triangle. Now forgive my artistic abilities. My triangle is not quite as beautiful as it could be. So For those of you watching on YouTube, you can see I've clearly just drawn a sort of a triangle. We'll call it a triangle. And I'm going to put a couple of lines across this triangle. So we're starting off with a horizontal line across the bottom of the triangle and then just working our way up. So we'll just leave it really simple right now where we basically have 4 separate areas of this triangle. In Curtis's book, what he suggested is to go through and just like in Maslow's hierarchy of needs, of course we all need food and shelter and all the things, right? In this bottom section of the triangle, I invite you to put in the things that you loathe doing. And this is fresh in my mind today because you don't appreciate what you have sometimes until it's not there. Unfortunately, we have a wonderful housekeeper who we've loved and worked with for 3 or 4 years since living in Lisbon, and she was sick all weekend, so I had no housekeeper. I found myself doing many of the things on the triangle. I could have hired somebody else. But this is why this was fresh in my mind today for today's episode. So imagine here at the bottom of the triangle, you would list things that you hate doing, the things if you had it all your way, you would never do it again. So I'm going to write down here in the triangle, for those of you listening, I'll describe it. I'm writing down TT for take out trash. That is probably one of my top 3 least favorite things to do in the world. Thankfully, my husband likes it. So whether it's AI or somebody in your life or an assistant, you know, there's always somebody out there who enjoys doing certain things that you don't enjoy. Cleaning in general, for me, we're just going to put a C here in general for kind of the bottom rungs of this triangle. So C is also going to be on the bottom of my triangle for cleaning. In general, taking out the trash and all forms of cleaning are not my favorite thing. Though, to go back to my earlier point, one of my oldest childhood friends, Heather— shout out to Heather, who I love and adore and have known for almost 40 years— and Heather loves to clean. I remember when we would hang out, like, her house was always spick and span, and it brought her great joy. So, for example, taking out the trash, cleaning, not my favorite things. I'm going to throw one more in here for good measure. Let's call it E for Excel spreadsheets. So, for those of you watching along on YouTube, you can now see a poorly written T, T, C, and E here on my triangle. So those are the things that I would encourage you to do for yourself. You can help even AI create a beautiful image for you that's a much better representation than what I'm whiteboarding here for you as we do this live in the show. So let's go to the third rung. So the bottom rung we'll call the fourth rung. That's the things that you absolutely hate to do. Then we're going to go to the third rung. What are the things that aren't your favorite to do? But that maybe you wouldn't mind doing. So I'm trying to think of what these would occur for me as. Oh, I'll give you a great one. So you know how you have those friends who love to pick people up from the airport? Like, I have some wonderful friends who will literally pick me up at the airport at different cities I'm in. I'm not that friend. You know, also, I don't drive, so it's kind of a moot point nowadays. But back when I did drive, driving actually, we'll put that at the bottom of the pyramid. Driving is something I would prefer to never do again, and so far I've been able to outsource it for the last 7 years. I'm very fortunate I've not had to get in a car. I just hire Ubers, thankfully, or Lyft or Bolt or wherever in the world I am. So driving for me got outsourced years ago. So right above that would be going to the airport to pick somebody up. So that might even mean, in my case, going in an Uber to go get somebody. You know, imagine it's somebody you haven't seen in a while. Some people love picking up friends from the airport. I'm going to say PUA here on this third rung of the triangle. So picking up people from the airport is something that I would do, you know, if it's my mom or my husband or something like that. Maybe I might do it. So it's not in the same genre as taking out the trash, but it's something that I don't enjoy. And we're going to put in here checking emails. So we'll call this CE for checking emails on the third rung of the triangle. Now, what's fun about this, and shout out to a friend, John Lee, who we'll have to have on the show. I was with John in Austin about a month or two ago, and John taught me something profound that totally changed my life. It's a service called Fixer, f y x e r dot a i. Now, I'm the person where sometimes I would have hundreds, if not thousands, of emails every single week, which many of us do, right? And part of it is sorting through what are the emails that are. What are the emails you need to respond to, etc.? So John tells me about this thing called Fixer.ai. I'm not an affiliate with them, I just happen to love the product. So fast forward, the first day I tried it, sometime in middle to late June, I remember almost crying because I don't know about you, I had a very specific way, despite hating answering emails, it was something that I did painstakingly organize to be sure everything, the expenses were in the expense area, etc. So fast forward, I start using this Fixer.ai. In the first 24 hours, I'm almost in tears because I'm like, oh my God, this is not how I've organized my emails. But within 48 hours, it had changed my life. You see, I used to spend probably 10 hours a week drafting responses to emails, organizing my emails, trying to sort through all the spam emails I got. Well, what this Fixer.ai thing did is it categorized all of my emails by color. And by different things. So all my marketing emails go in one file, all my calendar updates go in another file, all of my responses go in a file. And here's the best part: it's not perfect, but it does literally draft responses. It doesn't sound exactly like your voice, so you might have to make an edit here or there, but it even tells you how many hours you're saving a week in emails. So I think the first week I tried it, it saved me 10 hours. So those are things that are going to be on the 3rd rung of my email. Now, sorry, the 3rd rung of my pyramid here that we're looking at on YouTube. Now, another one is I give a lot of speeches. So I invite you put yourself in this. I'm just sharing mundane tasks and things I do that I've learned how to amplify or increase using AI and other things. So let's go here to the 2nd rung of the pyramid. So this is things that you kind of enjoy, you like doing. It might not be your favorite thing, which is reserved for the top of the pyramid. But it's kind of somewhere in the middle, right? So let's imagine here you go to the second rung of this pyramid. Something that I often do because I speak a lot around the world is PowerPoints. Now I would— I love, love, love writing speeches. That brings me great joy. So the writing a speech, writing speeches or articles would go up here for me. So I'm going to call this WS for writing speech. Giving speeches, GS, is one of my absolute favorite things. And then writing PowerPoints, we'll call that WP. All of those things for me exist in the top part of the pyramid. They all bring me great joy. However, the part that I don't find as much fun is this thing on the second rung, which is finding the right images. So we'll call this FI. Finding the right images to make those PowerPoints great and to mess around with the fonts and the artistic aspect of it. So I'm going to give you another little fun trick that I learned a couple months ago called Gamma.app. G-A-M-M-A.app. Again, I'm not a, you know, getting any sort of affiliate commission for them. These are just my new favorite tools that I tell to anybody who wants to improve and have more time in their life to do what they love. So you get into finding these images, and what I love is that I now use Chat to help me create my PowerPoints. I'll narrate to Chat. Whatever it is I want to create. Then I drop what I create in chat. It'll automatically pull up a PowerPoint for me, and I drop it in gamma.app. And I kid you not, in 10 to 15 seconds— I think when you first start at Gamma, you get a free trial. So for the first 3 or 4 months I was using it, I was getting a complete free trial. And finally, I paid, I think, $100 a year, which is very worthwhile. And it now does all of my PowerPoints for me with spectacular imagery. In a matter of 30 seconds or less. So finally, we get to the top part of the triangle, and this is where we can begin to look at how can we super connect to our purpose. What if we could spend more time doing the things we love? So I know I mentioned a few of my favorite things at the top of the pyramid, such as writing speeches, giving speeches, writing PowerPoints. I'm going to put Podcasting in general, whether it's appearing on my own podcast like this or appearing on other people's podcasts, meeting new people. I'll call for those of you watching on YouTube, I'll call this MNP for meeting new people. And then let's say T for travel. Travel. Oh, and throwing parties is also a lot of fun. So we'll call this TP for throwing parties. So for any of you watching here on YouTube with us at Jennifer K. Hill, where you can find the video of this. I wanted to share that what if you could spend more of your life doing the things you love? I'm going to put here for TH, time with husband, and then of course I'll call this for S for spiritual practices. So you can see there are a lot of things that I love doing at the top of my period, and I would imagine you have a lot of things that you love doing too that just light you up and bring you so much joy and fun and ease. And my offer, my inquiry, my suggestion to you is, what if you could spend more of your time, just as Curtis Estes taught me years ago with his book Your Life by Design, doing the things you love here at the top of the triangle and outsource all of this stuff on down? Whether it means hiring an assistant, whether it means, you know, using some of these AI hacks such as ChatGPT Gemini, you know, Midjourney. There are so many wonderful apps and AI tools out there. You can even ask your AI, here are the things that I don't enjoy doing. What apps or services could I do? And when you start to do this, you'll start to realize that you have the capacity and the choice to live the life of your dreams. And this really is why I'm doing the Super Connection Show. It's why I love to support each and every one of you. with super connecting to yourself, others, and your purpose. Now the fun thing is, once you get to that top part of the triangle of all the things you love to do, I'm going to invite you to use AI again and then to drop into AI all of those things you've said you love doing. In my case, traveling, speaking, connecting with people, writing articles, writing speeches. And I would invite you to drop that into chat if you're feeling Chat or, you know, Grok or whatever your favorite AI is. And if you're feeling stuck with your purpose and you say, gosh, well, what does this mean? So Jennifer told me to do this exercise and it turns out these are the top 5, 10, 20 things that bring me the most joy in my life. Then drop that into Chat or your favorite AI and ask it, what would you do if you were me? What sort of careers might you suggest? What direction might you take your career? And you even get bonus points. You could even drop in a chat and say, well, what's my Human Design and how does that play in? I did an episode on Human Design. I think it was one of our earliest episodes with Justin Breen, perhaps. Though I encourage you, use all these tools available to you. And if some of you out there are job hunting, I know many of you are entrepreneurs, though sometimes we do take a traditional J-O-B. If you do take a job, Then I also invite you to ask yourself, what do you need in that job? Use the same exercise for the tasks that you love doing and the tasks you would rather not do, and then use those as negotiation points for whatever job or career you're thinking of going into. I am Jennifer K. Hill. I'm grateful for your time, and I wish you a wonderful rest of your week.
