Jennifer K. Hill calls out a global loneliness epidemic rooted in disconnection from ourselves and each other. She shares a morning practice: ask yourself a reflective question before getting out of bed. A story shows how a manager about to fire an employee realized the disappointment was actually his own expectation, not the employee's failure.

Why is this happening? Why is there a loneliness epidemic sweeping the world right now? It is due to our disconnection with ourselves and one another. My invitation to you is every day before you get out of bed, ask yourself this question that was posed to me in a mastermind with some of the greatest minds of the world several years ago and changed my life. So in this particular case, she was on a PIP, a performance improvement plan, and we were getting ready to terminate her. And he came in and he said to me, I'll always remember this, Stephen, he said, Jennifer, what if the reason she is being a disappointment is because you are looking for her to be a disappointment?
So my message, my request, my invitation to each and every one of us, whether we're a man, a woman, masculine, feminine, whatever, whoever we might be, is that we look for the good. That we look for the good in ourselves first and foremost, and that we look for the good in everybody we work with, everyone we mentor.
