Quiet the Overthinking Week: Day 6: You Are Not Your Worst Thought

A two-minute reminder that intrusive thoughts don't define you. Try labeling them as "just a thought, not me" while breathing. If dark thoughts persist or intensify, reach out to friends, a therapist, or call 988 in the U.S.
Welcome.
I'm so glad you're here.
Today is World Mental Health Day, and I want to say something plainly because a lot of us need to hear it. You are not your worst thought. Minds are strange and wild. They can throw up something really dark or cruel or scary, completely uninvited. And then we make it worse by deciding that thought says something about who we are. If I thought it, it must be true. If I thought it, I must be broken. Nope. A thought is something that happens in you. It is not who you are. It's not a verdict, and it's not your identity. As you take a breath in, please commit to today when an ugly thought shows up in your head, say, that's a thought. That's not me. Hold. And exhale, knowing you can say it as many times as you need to truly believe it and sink into the relief that that brings. And here's the other half of today. If your thoughts have been heavy for a while, if they're getting louder or darker, please don't carry that alone. Talk to someone, a friend, a doctor, a therapist. If you're in the US and it feels like too much, you can call or text 988 at any time. Reaching out is not weakness. It's one of the bravest, smartest things a person can do. A person can do. You deserve support. You deserve peace. And you're so much more than whatever your mind had to say today. I'm sending you so much love. If there's someone that comes to mind that could use a little peace, please share this with them. And please subscribe to keep returning to peace in under 2 minutes a day. Thank you so much for being here with me today.
