How Soon After A Workout Should You Eat To Build Muscle? (IT MATTERS!)

The video reviews the anabolic window concept: while post-workout protein and carbs can reduce protein breakdown and boost synthesis (and carbs speed glycogen resynthesis), recent research shows that if you consume adequate pre-workout nutrition or meet daily protein/carbohydrate needs, immediate post-workout feeding offers minimal additional hypertrophy benefit for most (especially untrained) individuals. However, evidence suggests timing may matter more for experienced lifters, where immediate post-workout protein could slightly improve growth and strength. Several studies are cited, including Power et al. (pre-workout 45 g whey), Schoenfeld et al. meta-analysis (23 studies), 2014 comparisons of trained vs untrained responses, and a 2017 randomized trial in trained men showing small, possibly time-limited benefits of post-workout protein.
