Jessica Hickman argues managers aren't bad people, they're just untrained. They lack education on mental health, bullying, and toxic climates, plus instruction in communication and trust-building. So they react instead of prevent.

It's important to know that my managers were not bad people. They just didn't have the knowledge, courage, or training to deal with the bully. They weren't empowered to make a difference. They weren't taught how to deal with mental health reports, bullying, or detrimental workplace climate. They weren't educated on the importance of clear communication, how to build trust, or ask for help themselves. Without clear guidance, their responses to bullying were always reactive, never proactive.
