Jess Lee of Polyvore describes the platform's users as mostly ordinary fashion lovers, not just bloggers or celebrities. Polyvore aims to let trends emerge from diverse people everywhere, not just top-down editorial influence.
My name is Adele.
McElveen and I'm here to do a panel follow up question with Jessica Lee. So Jessica Polyvore works a lot with bloggers and you have celebrities and brands and you have regular people who love your product. How do these different groups come together and form the success of your website?
Well, I would say the bulk of our users are just ordinary people who just love fashion. They may or may not be bloggers. A lot of people are shy about posting their own style on a blog. So we've got a lot of people who just love fashion and want to express what they think is cool, what they're wearing in their, you know, what they wear in their fantasy closet. So that's, I think, the bulk of our uses. But we have a lot of people who are bloggers who also post the look that they're wearing that day and then how to get that look. And then occasionally we have celebrities who come on the side and help judge some of the campaigns that we do. But, you know, it's a nice, it's a nice blend. Ultimately, I think what we're trying to do is give people everywhere a voice in fashion and let them express what they think is hot and hopefully have that trickle instead of fashion trickling down from, you know, the elite editors and, you know, down to the masses, like, have it go up the opposite direction from, you know, it could be someone in Iowa who has no access to, you know, great stores. You know, maybe there's no Neiman Marcus near them. You know, they don't live in New York in the center of the fashion industry, but they can still say, hey, this is what I think is cool. And we can promote that and put that on our homepage and show it to all these different, you know, all the different fashion users out there. So that's sort of what we're trying to do. Great, thank you very much.
