Power is your ability or capacity to act or perform effectively. The Black Belt is all about power. Whether you're an actual kicking and punching Black Belt or you just want to think like one. There are plenty of people ready to feed you all kinds of garbage about power, especially that you can't get it or you don't deserve it. After 40+ years of believing their crap, I came to the conclusion that they were lying. And here are the top 5 lies about power. Number 1: Power corrupts. No, it doesn't. People corrupt power. Power can be used for benefit or destruction. The choice is yours. Number 2: Power is just for the powerful. Well, then how the heck did they get that way? Developing power is a process that can start with the bare minimum of resources, and it's your responsibility to develop your own power. Why not start now? Number 3: Money is power. No, it's not. Neither is knowledge. Money and knowledge are not power. They're resources you can use to develop power. If money and knowledge were power in and of themselves, then all smart and rich people would be powerful, and no stupid or desperate people would be. Number 4: Power is control. No, it's not. Power is your ability to act or perform effectively. Control is when you impose your will on others. Power is the currency of a leader. Control is the currency of a dictator. Which one do you want to be? Number 5 worst lie of all: You can't get it. Every human being has a tremendous capacity to develop power. Within the scope of your talents and abilities, your power and potential is almost limitless. The one thing you can always control in your life is your ability to cultivate power. To make yourself more effective. You can expand your capacity to be more effective at any time, and you don't need a lot of money, knowledge, or other resources to do it. Expanding your resources is part of becoming more powerful. You can start with little or nothing, take one small step, and become more powerful. And after all, every journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.
