Jim Carlough distinguishes managers from leaders: managers focus on technical skills and task execution, while leaders develop future leaders and act as coaches. Leadership is about nurturing and inspiration, not just getting the job done.
One of the huge differences, like a manager is skill-based, like people's skill, like the skill it takes to do the whatever career it is or whatever, where a leader, your responsibility is to grow and develop future leaders, in my humble opinion. So can you talk a little bit about if somebody said to you, tell me what the difference between a manager and a leader is, what would you say?
I would say instantly a leader is a coach, a motivator.
Mm-hmm.
More than anything.
Yeah.
A visionary, and is there to make sure that the team succeeds and moves forward. Yeah. And I agree, and I agree with you. My job is to, to, is to prepare the next generation of leaders to do what I do today so that they can take the same organization or a different organization further than where they are.
