Dr. Ben Rein covers three habits for better brain health: getting enough sleep to improve mood and cognition, increasing daily steps from 2,000 to 5,000, and maintaining social connections. Isolation actually penalizes the brain, while social interaction rewards it.

Maybe we could start out with 3 things that are good for your brain. Number 1 on my list always is sleep. Always, always. Sleep pretty much affects everything. Your mood, your athleticism, like pretty much anything you're approaching in your daily life, your cognition, you will feel the difference with a better night's sleep. So always start there. Number 2, exercise. I think the more you can exercise, the better you will feel for a variety of reasons. If you want to harness the benefits of exercise, then I say try to level up. If you're currently walking 2,000 steps a day, maybe try taking that to 5,000 steps a day. Number 3, social connection. This is growing more and more visible in the public discussion, I think, that social interaction is important for you, especially with the way the world is changing and the way things are going. You know, the statistics show that people are more isolated than ever. People are very lonely. People have fewer friends than they ever have had in history. There are many reasons why people are less connected, but it's fundamental. It's something that we need as humans. We are a social species, and our brains reward us for connection and punish us for isolation.
