Following trauma, we're actually potentially twice as likely to experience growth as we are to experience deterioration. Wow. Now, for most people, this potential is not realized. First of all, because most people are not even aware of the possibility of growth. And it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. So if following traumatic experience, I think, well, the only road open to me now is deterioration, that is likely to happen. But if the notion of the possibility is present, I'm much more likely to grow. It's almost a formula of not just bouncing back, but bouncing forward in your life and having that growth.
