Donald Winnicott noticed children building sandcastles near their mothers were more creative because they felt safe. He called this the circle of creativity. The same applies to adults: safety in relationships and life gives you the freedom to think creatively.

Work done by Donald Winnicott. He was a child psychologist from the UK. He went to the beach and he observed children playing, building sandcastles. And he noticed that children who were in closer proximity to their mother were more creative. And he coined the phrase circle of creativity. If the children were close within a certain radius of their mothers, they felt safe and they were creative. They were further away and less creative, less safety. Think about it. For us as adults, yeah, I don't need my mother right here, but this sense of safety, whether it's safety in the world, in my relationships, life in general, that provides me with the freedom to create.
