When you teach it, you get to learn it twice. It takes advantage of something called the explanation effect. The explanation effect in science says when you learn something with the intention of explaining it to somebody else, like if you had to give a TEDx talk on Monday about what you learned today, are you gonna pay attention better? Are you gonna take more notes, ask more questions during the break? You're gonna own that information.
